“Penthouse Suite 11”

Loved the pictures of this room online, and loved it when we arrived.
Beautiful room, beautiful house, and just as we'd expected.
Was surprised to find a communal lounge - very pretty and boutique looking.

It's not a hotel, so we anticipated the lack of staff and quietness, which was one of the attractions for our trip :) We arrived with milk, water and champagne to put in the fridge, and got takeaway dinners as we wanted to relax in the evening and not go out for meals. The owners helpfully have all the takeaway menus laid out downstairs, LOL.

The room was fab, and clean. We only left the hall at 2pm one day, but thankfully somebody nipped in and serviced the room quickly whilst we were out (we had worried we'd missed the boat on that one due to our late departure on a rainy day).

Great views over Bakewell from this room - with a double aspect in the corner.

Two minute walk to the bus stop to take the Transpeak bus to Wye Dale to walk the Monsal Trail back to Bakewell.

Nice cooked breakfast - a 'correct' size rather than a stuff-your-face sized portion like people may be used to. It's not a hotel, so I didn't hold it against them that it needed to go into the microwave for 20 seconds on arrival. After all, the room has a kitchenette...

Wi-fi signal was VERY patchy in this room. We seemed to get signal on and off when sat in one particular chair. The owners could do with looking into some booster equipment for the signal.

Our room was also oddly warm for a 15 deg celcius day and 11 deg night at the beginning of June. I normally moan about the cold at home, so this was an unusual issue for me. The radiators definitely weren't on, so I just assumed heat was rising from downstairs, or the old brick building construction giving a ridiculous amount of heat insulation! Still, with the windows open (this penthouse room has a double aspect), it cooled to a perfect temperature. I'm just not sure how comfortable it would be on a hot August day though....

Very friendly staff when we spoke to them on the phone / bumped into them in the car park :)

Spent a night in Bagshall Hall primarily due to proximity to Bakewell as we were only in town for the night and didn't want to taxi back to our hotel after a night out. Our room was very comfortable, though a bit of a pain not having access to the WiFi as I think we were too far from the router. Very clean, great value and location.

Very close to the centre of Bakewell with a lovely short walk to it.
The room was spacious with a lovely double ended bath. The room itself was very boutique and had a lovely night sleep. Whilst the staff were absent the one we dealt with was nice.
Room came with a kitchenette which was nice enough and situated to the side so didn't spoil the effect of the room. This came with microwave and tea making facilities.

The one thing we did find was that the fire alarm went off if you left the shower on too long due to the steam!! The bath plug also leaked so the bath took ages to fill!

This hotel definitely didn't match what one would expect for the price. We stayed here two nights in the main building in a 'luxury double suite'. Whilst the room (the Maribeau suite) itself was spacious and the location is convenient for walking into Bakewell, the hotel really didn't match the rates charged (£135/night). The bathroom walls don't reach the ceiling, leaving the bedroom open to any bathroom (including toilet) activity. This could be awkward for many... Our bed was made on day 2, but bedding and towels were not changed and toiletries not replenished. Neither was our supply of coffee, tea, sugar and milk replenished in the 2nd day, leaving us without these and in need of leaving the hotel early to get a drink in town (there is no catering whatsoever in the hotel itself and no sign of any staff). At this price, you would expect to be able to make yourself a hot drink in the morning...The room wasn't very clean, the carpet was badly fitted, the plumming dodgy (shower either boiling or freezing and sink plugs not working), the furniture tired. The wifi wasn't working in the room and the wifi policy (they can charge extra if you download many data) doesn't reflect the luxury accommodation it claims to be. I wouldn't recommend this hotel and wish I had paid more attention to recent reviews. Customer service and eye for detail in this hotel is really lacking, affecting the overall experience.

This is a price-based complaint. Yet in establishing our business 6 years ago we carried out full research of what is on offer in the area to establish a competitive level for our facilities in the centre of Bakewell.

The Mirabeau Suite is on the first floor with spectacular panoramic views of Bakewell and the surrounding countryside.
As the name suggests this room has been designed using a French bed and matching furniture, including a large round glass dining table, and 2 tub chairs which are situated in one of the windows to take in the views and also to take breakfast in the room. We also have a panelled dining room on the ground floor next to the lounge, where breakfast can also be taken if required. It sounds like this guest wanted to live off “free” tea and coffee from our complimentary basket rather than pay for a continental or cooked breakfast.

The rooms retain many features which form part of the reason why Bagshaw Hall is a grade 2 star listed building, dating back to 1684.
The Mirabeau Suite in particular has a large feature marble fireplace, because it was originally a first floor lounge, and it also features a corniced ceiling, wall panelling and shutters.
The modern bathroom design compliments the styling of the room and features a large double-ended bath in front of the bathroom window, a large Villeroy & Boch basin and toilet, and a separate power shower in a fully glazed enclosure.
The walls stop at picture rail height as part of the listed building requirements so as not to affect the detailed corniced ceiling.

We do have some guests who struggle to work power showers when they are not used to these facilities.

We service rooms where guests stay for more than one night, and if they require more toiletries or tea bags, guests only need to ask and we supply.

We pride ourselves on the cleanliness of our rooms and the fact that we have achieved a “certificate of excellence” on Trip Advisor in both 2012 & 2013. I am sure this level of service will continue in our excellent facilities at Bagshaw Hall.

Lovely place to stay in beautiful Derbyshire countryside with spectacular surroundings. Walking distance to centre of Bakewell. Staff (especially Martin) were so helpful and made our stay more enjoyable. HRH Approved

For the money we paid we expected big things. In reality we were very disappointed. The location was ideal for popping in and out of Bakewell by foot and the staff although mostly absent where pleasant and happy to accommodate us. The room however was tatty and outdated without any of the olden days charm. Instead we stayed in a poor quality room for the price, and were left imprisoned by the shutters on the inside of the windows as there were no curtains or blinds in the main room. Again the shutters where tatty and in need of some tlc. Overall the hotel provided little other than for walls and a modern bathroom. Bang average but for the price not worth it and a massive let down.

This guest has obviously not stayed in a 350-year-old grade 2 star listed building before. The room in question has a corniced ceiling, panelled walls, marble fireplace, two window seats and shutters at the windows, which is exactly what most guests wish to see in a building of such historic value. Less than 10% of historic buildings achieve a grade 2 star listing. To say they were expecting curtains and were “imprisoned by the shutters” is an unbelievable statement to make.

The bathrooms are modern as stated using Villeroy & Boch sanitaryware and power showers, and some rooms also have large double-ended baths.

We have designed the rooms with local names, using different contemporary furnishings in each. Some have a French style, others are more modern with superking size, deep buttoned leather beds and mirrored furniture.
We pride ourselves on the cleanliness of our rooms and for this guest to state that we only provide “little other than for [sic] walls and a modern bathroom” means they must have been walking around with their eyes closed!!
