“Chatsworth Country Fair”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2011

This was the first time we had been to the country fair and it was brilliant. There was so much to see and do that you cant really do it all in one day. There was the Household Cavalry, the Tigers Freefall Team and the REME band just to mention a few. There were competitions going all day with dogs, horses, scottish dancing, stonewall building, shooting etc. Will definately go again next year. A briliant day out!!

“superb grounds but take your own food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2011

Really enjoyable day, good weather and all.
Thank you for allowing dogs, she behaved.
The friendly staff and tour guides were a pleasure.
Clean and maintained toilets.

The only let down, and it was a big let down, was the food from near the shop, old sandwiches and over priced.

It would take you weeks to see it all, every room is stunning, a great place to visit if you like art, and the gardens are covered in intresting sculptures.

“Absolutely worth the trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 October 2011

Visited Chatsworth for the third time in Sept 2011. Still absolutely worth the price of admission. Last time I was there was in 1998 and I'm impressed how much more professional and helpful the staff was, and how much more professionally presented the house and gardens are. The gardens are much more interesting than previously. Have visited other great estates, and this one is by far the best I've seen. Disappointed in what they've done to the chapel. Not overly impressed with the choice of food services. But definitely worth seeing if your in that part of England.

“Magnificent gardens”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2011

Visited Chatsworth primarily for the gardens which were magnificent. So many different areas all superbly kept with many still in full flower even at the end of September. The sheer scale and variety are overwhelming. Note that due to the lack of rain this year, the cascade and fountain are only run for a couple of hours each day. Could easily spend the whole day in the gardens alone and not see it all.

Happened to visit during the Beyond Limits sculpture exhibition so had the bonus of seeing a number of modern art sculptures distributed amongst the vast and expansive grounds.

The house didn't do a lot for me - usual great dusty pile of a stately home on a particularly huge scale. Some of the modern art was good but the most interesting item was the trompe l'oeil painting of a violin in the music room. From the distance you could view it from, I'm still not convinced it wasn't real - astonishing!

Well worth a visit.
