“An amazing wedding venue”
Reviewed 16 April 2014

Thank you to all the staff and management for making our special day fabulous ! The rooms look amazing and the service was superb all weekend. Yes, the bar did run out of beer, but this was largely down to my dad and other thirsty fellas! Our guests loved this friendly well run hotel and we will continue to stay here as often as we can.......fabulous food too ...thank you

Room Tip: Spoil yourself and have the bridal room

The Rutland is in the centre of Bakewell in a very prominent position , we went to show some friends how lucky we are to have this wonderful hotel to take friends for drinks only to discover that the bar had Run out of beer and offered us cider !!!! There was a wedding reception taking place that afternoon and evening, the guests also we're not happy and ended up in other bars in the town . There wasn't much forward planning with the management .

We stayed for 2 nights at the Rutland Arms and were delighted with its position in the town. The rooms were clean and well furnished. Our room had dual aspects and was a lovely light and airy room. Staff were friendly and accommodating. We opted for the continental breakfast and there was plenty of choice. The restaurant menu was fairly limited and pricey, so we ate out at a nearby pub. Due to its central location there are loads of restaurants and pubs nearby all offering a wide range of food. We enjoyed our stay there and would go back again.

We recently stayed at the Rutland Arms to celebrate our daughter's baptism. We hired the ballroom and had a buffet function as well as many of our friends and family staying at the hotel for the weekend. The staff and service was absolutely fantastic, they couldn't have been more helpful in helping with our children's bottles, feeding and generally making life easier for us! The food and room service was superb and the rooms were all lovely especially the four posters. We could not fault the Rutland Arms and it's staff in any way!! Highly recommended for a lovely stay in the Peaks. Thank you to all. :-)

Room Tip: Four posters especially nice

The hotel is a traditional style hotel. All staff in the hotel were very friendly and welcoming and we never had to wait for service anywhere in the hotel.
The room was a correct size and adequately furnished. The bed was a twin bed pushed together, but with a single quilt (which I find rather silly), but otherwise comfortable. Our room was on the side and very quiet. The bathroom was very disappointing. It had what looked like mildew in some of the corners, the hot water took a good 5 minutes to make its appearance and when it did, the pressure was so low, that to take a bath, you would have had to run it several hours in advance. For a shower you could almost count the individual drops. Furthermore there was absolutely nowhere in the bathroom to place your toiletries, no shelf, no cupboard, no nothing. That meant you had to leave everything in the bedroom and run in and out for each individual item.
Breakfast was excellent, with the hot items all cooked to order, with high quality ingredients. We ate once in the bar and that was good too.
Bakewell is a delightful market town and we enjoyed both the town and the neighbouring Peak District.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front overlook the Square so have a view, but are noisier.

We stayed on an Amazon three night deal and had Room 16 on the second floor with a view (and the hum of) the kitchen extractor. The room was well furnished and clean. The bed was two singles pushed together but with King Sized bedding. The TV had only 8 channels, one of which was BBC Alba (Scottish Gallic). Reception on ITV was flaky and Channel 7, whatever that was, was not viewable. There was no News Channel. I appreciate there may be issues with Freeview due to the locally topography but surely, in this standard of hotel there is a technological solution?
The bathroom although reasonably well fitted had nearly no water pressure. The flow was so weak that it was difficult to wash out your toothbrush after use. I was told this was normal for second floor rooms - again surely the technology exists to sort this out?
The staff were very polite and helpful. The food and service (3 breakfasts and one dinner) was very good. The deal with dinner we were offered was not as stated by Amazon but as what was provided suited us well, we did not quibble.
The car parking is difficult. On arrival were could not see where it was initially - it is labelled "Rutland Antiques". There is not enough space for all guests and staff and the other businesses that use it to park. The arrangement is that one can block others in as long as you leave a car key with Reception so that staff can move it to let others out. The hotel fronts onto a very busy roundabout so there is no possibility to stop outside even for a minute to drop off luggage.
Having said all of that, we enjoyed our stay at the Rutland Arms which, with the Amazon deal, was very good value for money. Bakewell is a nice town and well situated for visiting some lovely places in the Peak District.

We have stayed here a few times when visiting the Derbyshire Dales. It is central and all roads appear to lead from/to Bakewell, a lovely market town. The hotel staff are very welcoming and make you feel welcome and important, nothing is too much trouble.

Room Tip: Rooms onto square can be noisy if you have windows open, but we have not found it a problem.
