highly recommend the roast dinner and the pannini - ham and mozzarella. Very fresh, beautifully presented. Great, welcoming restaurant. Wide range of choice.

“poor service”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

Poor service and expensive food spoilt what could have been a very pleasant day out. We had to go to the shop to purchase a flapjack as they were not on sale in the restaurant. With a least six staff standing around surely good customer service would dictate that someone could get some flapjacks for a customer? Tea for four and two cakes at £15.25 warranted better service. Disappointing

We are sorry to hear that your experience at the farm shop café was not up to our usual high standards.

Please note that we do have a range of gluten free cakes that you were not made aware of, and be assured that we will give additional training to the person that served you.

I hope you will accept out sincere apologies.

“Fresh, lovely food, great service and atmosphere”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

Popped in for lunch on a Friday with a little one in tow. Waitress service. The toasted paninis and ciabattas are lovely and the burger for the little one looked fantastic. Children's meals are available and alcohol can be ordered. Dessert menu declined on this visit but will be back to try them!

“Used to be better”
Reviewed 8 August 2014

We've eaten at the Farm Shop restaurant on and off for several years. The quality used to be very high and there were often long queues around lunchtime. In good weather, the outdoor seating area is very pleasant whereas the restaurant can seem noisy and cluttered.

The restaurant was fairly quiet on our recent visit and the food was disappointing. As another reviewer commented, the portion sizes have increased but quality has gone down. Sausage and mash used to be a genuine delight with a trio of succulent best quality sausages tastefully presented on a bed of fluffy mash. This time, we had grossly overcooked thin sausages (dry as old boots) on a bed of greasy and poorly presented mash. The caramelised onion gravy was far too sweet. A ploughman's lunch meal had enormous amounts of cheese, a small portion of rather poor pork pie and two slices of bread. When we asked for extra bread, it was added to the bill. We didn't get the advertised piccalilli. As we had a foreign visitor with us, we expected the meals to reflect the best of English rustic fare. The pork pie was nothing like the genuine Melton Mowbray article, there was no cheddar cheese and perhaps the brie was French.

Given that Chatsworth has seen some fairly steep price rises this year, prices in the restaurant are still quite reasonable but surely the restaurant must try to keep up the high standards implied by the quality of food in the farm shop.

“Disappointing !”
Reviewed 6 August 2014 via mobile

Well the quality of the restaurant food certainly doesn't match the quality of the food in the farm shop. This it appears they try to compensate for with huge portions.

My wife's salmon skewers were dry and served on a huge mound of dryish plain rice. My sausages were certainly not quality and tasted as though they had been boiled rather than grilled and came with a huge mound of mashed potato which itself was pleasant enough.

Both dishes were served unimaginatively with huge portions of cauliflower, carrots and broccoli. This appeared to be the standard accompaniment and there was little thought to serving appropriate accompanying vegetables for the main courses chosen.

Expensive for the quality of fare offered and certainly disappointing.
