“Great service”

This is a great place for lunch. The soup was delicious - worth mentioning this is a cash only cafe. Lovely atmosphere and excellent service

“Walked past three other places to visit this excuse for a food establishment”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 May 2013

After reading about the new Costa Coffee threatening local businesses we were mindful to spend out tourist pounds in local establishments when it came to eating time in Bakewell. We passed three places before choosing to stop here where a simple menu attracted our immediate needs (snack). We thought it rather interesting to hear the manager telling customers that he had called into Costa earlier as it was impossible to find a coffee early or late in the day in Bakewell.

Whilst listening to the chatter about the pros and cons of Costa and what it did/did not bring to the town we chose a beef and mustard sandwich and a toasted corned beef and cheese toastie. This was to be accompanied by a canned coke and a latte.

Drinks arrived quickly but we waited and waited and waited for food. Some time later a delivery person came along with a new oven, which must have been very important as all service ceased at this point. The oven took some time to take out of its box, after this the old oven took a similar amount of time to get out.

The "food" eventually arrived with the server advising us that he would not be charging for it. I pointed out that we were not looking for free food, we merely wanted our lunch. Upon eating it it became obvious that the bread on the beef sandwich, described as "farmhouse" was dry, cut too thick and lacked filling. The "toastie" was just warm and not very toasted, the filling was almost cold and the cheese not melted. At bill paying time, despite me insisting upon paying the manager would only accept payment for the drinks. If I am honest this was a good call but even if I had not had a long wait for our food, the quality and the slow service would mean that next time I head for Costa just like the manager of this so called eatery!

“Best quiche in ages!!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 April 2013 via mobile

The food was the best part of our visit, we found just what we wanted. The quiche was a daily special, it was caramelised onion and cheddar & the guy serving us even gave us the recipe which we will definitely do! Two of us also had the cup of soup and half sandwich with salad which was really filling and tasty - you could tell everything was freshly made. The guy that served us was really friendly and welcoming, he had great knowledge of the menu - we assumed he was the proprietor. The only annoying thing was they didn't have toilets but there were public ones withing 100 yards which had won the loo of the year awards this year no less!!! At around £25 for four of us, lunch and drinks, we felt that was good value. Would go again if in the area.

“No atmosphere and overpriced average food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 March 2013 via mobile

The cafe lacks warmth and atmosphere. The place is small and has no character or warmth.

Staff are friendly, but service was very very slow.

The food is of average quality but we felt was over priced.

Would not recommend.

“Dog friendly cafe”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 February 2013

Enjoyed our visit to the Honeybun in Bakewell, Derbyshire. As it was a very cold day, we wanted somewhere warm to sit and have something hot to eat but had our dog with us. We past the cafe which included a sign stating they were dog friendly. We were welcomed in and ordered our food which was hot and filling, the dog was well behaved and sat quietly under the table. We would highly recommend the cafe for you and your dog.
