“Lovely cosy cottage”
Reviewed 18 January 2018 for a stay in January 2018

Lovely warm cosy cottage. Very clean and well equipped, loved the real fire. Very comfortable bed and excellent rain shower. Fabulous views and well situated for visiting interesting places in the area. The owner is very welcoming, available if you need help but not at all intrusive. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this cottag.

“A Lovely, Quaint Country Cottage”
Reviewed 27 November 2017 for a stay in November 2017

We spent two nights at Swallow Cottage recently and had a lovely stay. The cottage is in a lovely location with fantastic views over the Chatsworth Estate. It snowed on the night we arrived and this only enhanced the view in the morning.

Inside, the cottage is small, but given that it dates back to the 16th century this should be expected. It is very cosy; there is a wood burning stove which is brilliant in the cold, Winter months. Electric heaters are in all rooms except the bathroom, which can be a little chilly in November.

The owner Wayne is lovely and checked in with us to make sure we had everything we needed and that we had found where everything was. His directions in were helpful as the cottage can be tricky to find.

Overall, a great stay, exactly what we were wanting!

“Too Expensive for what you get”

We were looking for somewhere which took dogs; and Swallows Nest came out as one of the few in the Peak District that did...

Good points - Wayne was great from the start - very communicative and easy to get hold off. Lovely location (if you want some peace and quiet) - however, it is 3 miles from Bakewell - so don't expect to walk to a pub! Very spacious too.

However, the cottage wasn't the easiest to find... it had a fairly unattractive entrance, and it has limited parking. The cottage itself is pretty dated - and could do with a bit of an uplift.

For £115/night, you expect a certain amount. Maybe some tea bags, and a pint of milk in the fridge, and some shampoo/toiletries in the bathroom. We'd expect this from basic cheap hotels. It didn't have much of a personal touch, which was a shame because it was in a beautiful setting.

If it was priced at a more reasonable offer; none of these above issues would have mattered as much. But if you pay a price, you should really get something in return.

Would you recommend this hotel to a friend?   No.

We stayed in swallows nest, which is just next door to swallows cottage. It was lovely and spacious for me and my partner and our son. We also had outside garden with amazing views!! A very pretty cottage. Wayne was really nice and welcoming. We will definitely be returning soon!
