“Seventh Visit”
Reviewed 12 September 2012

Our first visit to Robertswood was in September 2005. We were so impressed by the whole experience that we have been going for 5 or 6 nights in September every year since. We have just returned from our seventh visit and can honestly say that the quality of accommodation, food and service are as good as our first visit.
David and Marylyn are superb hosts and will do their utmost to make the stay as enjoyable as possible. We look forward to the eighth visit next year.

We spent 3 nights at Robertswood and were very comfortable. The welcome was very friendly, David and Marylyn clearly enjoy their guests and making them happy. Our room was large and bright with wonderful views across the valley and a large, comfortable bed. There was a flat screen TV which claimed to also play DVD's though we did not try this, and a tea/coffee point which was very well equiped. The bathroom was new and well fitted, though the shower control varied from day to day in what was required in order to obtain a usable temperature. There are liquid soap and lotion dispensers above the handbasin and liquid soap and shampoo dispeners in the bath/shower. The enitre house has been extensively renovated and is immaculately clean, with every facility. Unusually for a B&B there is a bar and with advance warning you can even have a three course evening meal. We intended to eat in only on one night but Marylyn is such a good cook we ended up eating in every evening. Food is locally sourced and excellent. There is ample car parking, another bonus in an old town where such is rare.
I certainly hope to visit Robertswood again.

My husband and I recently spent a long weekend in Matlock. While looking through various websites trying to find somewhere to stay, I came across the one for Robertswood. I knew instantly that this was where we would stay.

From the moment we went through the front door we were made to feel very welcome. David and Marylyn were very friendly, the bar was a lovely place to spend time in the evenings, chatting with everyone and the breakfasts were delicious and kept us going into the afternoons.

I highly recommend staying at Robertswood as a base to do lots of sightseeing in the Derbyshire area. David and Marylyn willingly share ideas of places of interest, walks to do and things to see. They also know a lot about the history of the house and Matlock.

We hope to stay there again soon.

Room Tip: Most rooms have great views of the Derwent Valley.

This place is an amazing place to go for many things, relaxing, to see the peak district or to spend quality time with family which is what I did. There were 8 adults and a 19 month old and we all had an amazing time.

The breakfast and evening meals that were served were amazing, very yum and highly recommend taking advantage of the fact that this B&B has an alcohol license! At least you don't have to go out of an evening and can stay in and get to hear some delights from Dave and have Marylyn cook for you.

I will be returning again some time soon!

Impressive Victorian hotel with very friendly owners. Sort of how I remember guest houses used to be. The hotel is high up so views over the dales are lovely and very nice gardens. Lots of parking as well.

Quiet location as well as set away from main roads.

There is a big lounge with bar and all seemed very friendly family oriented. We were in room 4. Room was clean, roomy and a nice comfy bed. Being niggly, the decoration of the room does not fit in with the victorian feels of the building as a whole, however, would stay again.

Room Tip: Rooms to the front of the hotel should have best views as these look down the valley.
