So comfortable, every thing thought of, absolutely delicious breakfast but above all, wonderfully hosted. Loved the South African touches in the decor. Excellent location close to station and town. Would highly recommend.

Thank you for this excellent review, Sacha, it was great to get to know you. We love the fact that you classify John's breakfasts as gourmet, it is a first for him! Glad you enjoyed our South African touches and hospitality, would love to see you again if you visit the UK again.

We expected this B&B to be good because we had read previous Tripadvisor reports, and we certainly weren't disappointed.
The room was not large but was comfortable and had everything we could possibly need. Parking was easy, only just across the road in a residents permitted car-park.
We were welcomed by Anne and there were home-made healthy muffins in our room freshly made each day- scrummy!
But the finishing touch is probably breakfast - John cooks these to perfection and even takes into consideration special dietary requirments
we definitely recommend Ellen House

Thank you, we appreciate this lovely review. We do try hard to provide our guests with a special experience and part of it is our breakfast and home made goodies. Both are always a hit with our guests. Not all our rooms are the same size, but we have taken great trouble to maximise the space and to ensure that everything you need is provided to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Glad we succeeded.

Fishing on the Derbyshire Wye, hotels along with B&B's had been recommended within the Peak District National Park adjacent to the fishing location. They seemed fully booked, I then took the plunge and went for a B&B slightly outside the area of our proposed fishing venues. Well I couldn't have found a better place to stay! Ellen House owned by Anne and John Atkinson is amongst the very best I have ever stayed in. This couple are excellent hosts, seemingly nothing is too much trouble, they organised packed lunches and left us to come and go as we pleased. Car Parking was sorted with a parking permit all very simple and straight forward, these guy's are great! I should mention breakfast, in one word superb!

Room Tip: Just book anyone and go to stay.

We are looking forward to your next stay and do hope that the fish will bite! PS: We did enjoy the fruits of your labour, the fish you so kindly gave us provided a lovely meal for us!

We booked a last minute weekend in Matlock and stumbled on Ellen House. The location is perfect (just a few minutes walk from the town centre but very quiet, close to the train station too). The welcome was warm, the food excellent, the room spotless. If I was being forced to be picky the only thing I might say (we stayed in room 2) is that the bathroom is a little on the small side with the sink in the bedroom it self. However, that didn't spoil what was a lovely weekend.
We couldn't take advantage of it (because of the weather) but you can make use of a beautiful garden at the back of the house, you are welcome to borrow wine glasses and keep a bottle in the fridge, there's a fantastic range of breakfast choices with homemade jams, top quality meat and some South African touches (the owners are South African). We would recommend the B&B to anyone who asked.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 2. it's at the back of the hosue, very quiet and cosy. The ensuite has a bath with shower over but the sink is in the bedroom - don't let that put you off the B&B!!

Thank you for your review, we love the fact that you think we are a perfect B&B! Such a pity that you were not able to sit in our garden, it is a lovely garden with a few places to sit and enjoy the birds and our local squirrel's antics! Glad you appreciated our South African touches and the convenience of the fridge in the dining room. As I mentioned before, we get our sausages and bacon from a local award winning butcher, he supplies meat and other products to a few other local restaurants as well.

Lovely place to stay run with much attention to detail. Huge selection on breakfast menu. Breakfast very nice especially the home made jam and marmelade. Very conveniently located for public transport users, like us (2 min. Walk to train and bus station). Nice back garden that can be used by residents.very friendly and helpfull owners. We recommend it!

Thank you , Elaine, we appreciate your lovely review. We are indeed situated very close to the bus and train station, without it being intrusive. We are proud of our menu and the selection we offer, we like to offer our guests more that just the usual. We do, however, offer an excellent full English with some personal touches!
