I stayed at Thornleigh in September 2011 as part of a group of 13 girls.
First impressions were excellent. There was a basket of local food items provided, along with home made chocolate brownies, which were delicious! All the bedrooms were nicely presented with towels and toiletries provided. Four of the rooms are en-suite, and there is a main bathroom with a roll-top bath. The large kitchen/diner was really well equipped. There was plenty of crockery and cutlery, as well as cooking equipment including a food processor and weighing scales. There was even a fondue set! We spent most of our time in this room as it was ideal for entertaining. The hot tub was a big favourite with everyone, and we all loved relaxing in it. There is a sauna in the basement, but we were so busy that we didn't get time to use it.
Being so close to the town centre meant that we were within easy walking distance of all the bars, shops, pubs and restaurants. There was plenty of choice of places to eat and drink, and the supermarket within walking distance of the house came in useful when we'd run out of wine. It is also within walking distance of the train and bus stations, making it handy for anyone arriving by public transport.
Thronleigh is in a residential area, and so the owners made it clear as part of the terms and conditions, and in the welcome pack, that noise late at night was unacceptable. This didn't spoil our enjoyment at all - we just made sure that we stayed inside late at night and kept all the doors and windows closed. However, if you're looking for a secluded property where you can have music blaring all night without disturbing the neighbours, this probably isn't the place for you.
I thought the property was ideal for a girly weekend away, and I'd definitely recommend it to others.

We were a group of 13 girls on a Hen weekend. We orginally thought Thornleigh was set in its own grounds but it wasn't it was in a residential area, so there was notices up all around stating about keeping the noise levels to a minimum.
The place itself is fantastic. The kitchen was very large with all the mod cons you could wish for. All the bedrooms had towels and all were clean and tidy. The hot tub outside was brilliant and the poole table and sauna were great.
We did try and keep the noise levels down as far as we know they were no complaints about noise. It was a 5 minute walk into the centre of Matlock. We had a great time and we would return.
