Lovely gardens and tea rooms with plant sales, the flowers and trees are in a wonderful setting and offer a great display in colour and variation although on our visit some of the flowers had been battered by some heavy rain the previous night, we had a lovely afternoon here.

“Picture perfect”
Reviewed 25 May 2014

First visit. We arrived to see rhododendrons and azaleas spilling out all over the garden. However, we had a coffee and scone first from the cafe, which were excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful, particularly as we had two large dogs with us. Garden was amazing. There must have been every colour rhodo - a riot of colour. We then went back to the cafe for lunch - all four of us had a different salad which was beautifully presented and very wholesome.

We visited the rhododendron garden at Lea in Derbyshire on a busy Saturday in May The weather was fantastic. The display of rhododendrons and azalea was spectacular and the best we have ever seen here. The blaze of colour was magnificent. The garden was started in 1935 and has matured with hundreds of different varieties of both rhododendron and azalea bushes. Around every corner was a spectacular display of different colours. The café was busy and there were some delicious looking cakes but I was concerned as they were on open display on the counter where the public queue for their orders. Surely they should be covered?. I decided not to order any cakes but when my change was handed to me some coins dropped in to the chocolate icing on one sponge. The coins were fished out but the cake was not removed from sale. I urge the owners to rectify this as they have such a wonderful attraction to be visited.

“Wonderful day out”
Reviewed 19 May 2014

This was our second trip to Lea Gardens, We first went at the end of March, we enjoyed the day looking around the garden( but the flowers weren't out as it was too early in the season), looking for newts in the ponds and having a lovely afternoon tea. We went again last week (May 15) and the flowers were absolutely beautiful. The only down side to Lea Gardens is that it is quite dangerous to get out of as you can't see what traffic is coming, it would be a good idea if they put mirrors up to help drivers.

“Blooming lovely Rhododendrons!”

A secret garden I never tire of visiting in spring as it reminds me of my visits to the Chelsea Flower Show in1960s. Standard of maintenance is high. paths easy to walk on. Delicious cakes to be enjoyed in cafe as well as great plants for sale in glasshouse
