Such a small pub wiith such a HUGE atmosphere ! Based at the top of Matlock, the views from the pub and patio are amazing. Looking out over all of Matlock, towards Riber Castle and Matlock Bath, you never tire of looking at it. The patio area is covered and heated so even in winter it attracts many people.

The pub is run by Pat .. a man who must own the most ZIPPO lighters ever which are on display behind the bar.

No food on a Monday lunch time, but otherwise, it's business as usual all other days. From a selection of sandwiches on different breads, to soup and stews - whatever you choose you can't go wrong. I was told the Soup Station was very popular at this time of year ... can't think why !!

Wednesday night is PIE NIGHT usually. Pat provides a good variety of pie fillings, including vegetarian and some more adventurous than the usual steak or steak and kidney. A variety of pie toppings are available too, so you can get your own little unique pie. These are served with home made chunky chips or other potato dishes ... there's a selection of vegetables and I can't forget to mention his world famous mushy peas, which are DIVINE !!

Sunday roast is served .. on a Sunday obviously .. and in the summer this is often replaced by a BBQ !

A CAMRA pub, the Thorntree has not long since won an award for it's beer care and serving and well deserved too. You can also get a 2 pint carton to take out with you !!

This pub is a gem .. a real mix between regulars, young and old (a lot of whom have their own special glasses), and with a friendly atmosphere day and night. The banter between one of the bar ladies (pictured) and Pat the night we went was entertainment in itself!!

Thoroughly recommend this pub/eatery for families, young and old .. and dogs are more than welcome.
