“Amazing food, great atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 July 2014

We visited The Duke yesterday (Sunday 27th July 2014) arriving at 1730. We noted that the Sunday carvery was served until 1800 so quickly went to place our order only to be told they had sold out. Feeling disappointed we looked through the menu & placed our order. Boy are we glad they had sold out of carvery. The food we ordered, steak, mixed grill & cheeseburger were all out of this world. The food was cooked to perfection & in good time. The staff couldn't do enough for us & made us feel totally welcome. After the first mouthful we had already decided that this would be our place of choice to eat at on our future trips to the area.

Well done The Duke, you were amazing.

Eaten here twice recently and not been disappointed on either occasion. Good value pub food and friendly service in a pleasant atmosphere.

“Eat Somewhere Else!e”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 November 2013

Fish on menu but none available even as early as 7 pm. Wine list at bar rather than on tables and the wine served was apparently a different one to the one ordered. The manager then tried to charge double the price of the one we ordered pointing to an obscure entry on the back of the menu, while the other wines (including the Rioja we ordered) were listed on the inside pages. This was despite us having to open the wine ourselves at the bar as the staff were unable to do it!

“Home cooked food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2013

The food was a very good standard, not restaurant like more home cooked at very reasonable prices.
If you have room for a sweet then I suggest you order the chocolate fudge cake it's lovely.

“Nice eatery for Afternoons but definately not an evening meal!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 May 2013

I ate here with my partner and friend on a Saturday evening.
I must tell you I will never be returning here again!
I have enjoyed many Saturday afternoon sandwiches here in the outdoor seating area and really enjoyed myself however for an evening meal, where we pre-booked a table, my views on this place have nose dived to say the least.
the service was friendly but took a long time for our food to arrive with us and when it did, the mashed potatoes was glorified smash, the food was microwaved and the atmosphere was awkward.
We were sat in the window and the local rugby team streamed in half way through our starter.
they were loud, obnoxious and thought nothing of joining us at our table to sit with each other and chat while we ate! Rude is polite, and the staff at the Duke took no effort to move us or pre warn us that this may happen.
For a Saturday evening and for a place that serves food, this is a terrible set up.
If you need a sandwich in the afternoon, come here, its quiet and the food is nice, but for an evening meal avoid it like the plaque unless you are more inclined to want a rowdy drinking session. I am not impressed with this place.
