Been going to Scarthin Books for years and it NEVER changes!! God knows how it doesn't sink into its foundations with the weight of books it contains. Amazing cafe with a lovely choice although meat lovers might feel short changed!! The salads are lovely and you never feel rushed although at busy times you may not get a table as it is very popular with not many tables. It is so nice to still find somewhere SO original today where every high street feels full of 'chain stores'. Please don't EVER change

Called here on a recent visit to Derbyshire. Looked around the book shop and then decided to stop off in the cafe for a drink. There is a great variety of teas both traditional and fruit. The board in the cafe had an array of vegetarian and vegan dishes on offer. We did not stay for lunch but both my husband and I, as non vegetarians could have easily have ordered from it and felt completely satisfied. We saw some of the meals as they went out to tables and they did look lovely, very fresh. Quite small though and at busier times I bet you are lucky to get a table.

Wow what a find for lunch. Had a vegan veg chili pie and my friend had a mint chick pea pie. Both with a lovely salad. Haven't had pastry for an age. Tasted delicious. Also the bookshop is amazing.

Who has kept this place hidden. Arranged to meet a friend there and was blown away by the place. What a place, Looks like a small bookshop from the outside but turns into a real gem inside. A place to lose yourself in, literally and metaphorically. I need to go back to look around and find the bits I didn't see. The food was delicious and the staff helpful and friendly. This place will be a meeting place again, soon I hope.

Best bookshop I know, plenty of second hand books in quirky setting, new discoveries around every corner, the vegan/vegetarian cafe hidden behind a moving 'false wall' bookshelf, small secluded garden patio for sunny days, a piano room if the mood takes you, a small presents room, friendly staff, super setting in the peak district, I also recommend their 'apple days' in the autumn- community spirit in buckets.
