“Very poor - best avoided”
Reviewed 17 November 2013

First thing to say is that the restaurant was really cold, and some customers were keeping their jackets on. We had to wait a long time, for overcooked bajis and then undercooked tandoori chicken!!! The waiter appeared to be on his own, and disinterested in his customers. This is the first bad review that I have written, but had such poor service and food that felt I needed to alert others! Looking at other reviews, wonder if we were just unlucky and went on a bad night

“ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE”
Reviewed 17 November 2013

I have had worse food before (mainly in sub Saharan Africa) but I have never had worse service.

The atmosphere upon walking in is like that of a school dinner hall with some added pictures and an odd water feature. Upon walking in It was freezing cold. We were greeted by the one of the waiters who took us to the main desk where an argument was taking place between some other customers and the manager. They had used a groupon code on an I phone which the manager refused to accept as it was not printed out. He made the lady drive half an hour home leaving the four remaining guests waiting.

We also had a groupon voucher (which fortunately I had printed off). We were shown to our table and I asked what was included in the deal. We were told we had to share a rice and share a naan bread, we could have a flavoured naan but that was extra, if we wanted anything other than plain rice, that was extra, we could choose a main each and share a side dish. We were also allowed a glass of wine or coke, if we wanted beer, that was extra...The voucher we presented stated quite clearly we were each allow a main, a side, a naan and rice, a starter and a drink each but the manager refused to honour it. even when I told him 'I will be reviewing this meal on Trip Advisor' The table behind us were bartering over the price of a beer. The first one they ordered was £3.50 the second was £5?

Another couple were served vinegar concentrate with their chips, which burnt his mouth leaving painful ulcers, the manager said that it was the fault of the kitchen staff for not diluting it. A massive row then erupted in the kitchen with staff screaming and shouting at each other.

The food was reasonable, about what you would expect from a down market take away.

The man who waited on us was quite nice and seemed embarrassed by the way the manager treated his customers.

There are loads of nice places to eat in Matlock and the surrounding area. Don't waste your time here, really wish I hadn't bothered...

“good but slow”
Reviewed 17 November 2013

Very good, but the service is very slow, so be prepared to wait between courses. Not many people in the restaurant so could not quite understand why it was slow. Would n0t like to go when it was busy.
The food is excellent, but as I mentioned the service is so very slow Also they seemed to be having trouble with the heating as it was really cold.

“Nice Food”
Reviewed 28 September 2013

Used a Groupon voucher which was very good value, for a starter main side dish and drink.
The service was a bit slow because the waiter was busy, everyone though was polite.
The food was good.,the vegetables crisp, meat tender and sauces tasty The portions were generous.Additional drinks were a bit overpriced.
All in all worth a visit to try this style of "Indian" cooking.
