We booked by phone for my husbands' birthday weekend.
I range up a couple of days before to confirm the booking and left an answerphone message asking someone to call me back to confirm. No-one did. I then called the day before to confirm and they didn't even apologise for not responding to my message.
We arrived and it was chucking it down with rain. No-one was at reception. having stood there for a while waiting for the door to be answerered, someone wandered over and didn't intoduce themselves, I had to ask if they worked there!
They did have all the paperwork ready on arrival and as it was quiet said we could pick our own pitch.
The checkout time was 12 noon. At 11am the elec went off. Not overly helpful when we were in the middle of breakfast! We continued to pack up and as we were leaving I called at reception to find out if they had had problems with the elec. Again, no-one was at reception or the shop or anywhere else to be found. I was just about to leave and someone walked out. They confirmed they'd had problems with the elec and suggested it might be because someone was overloading it & it kept tripping out. They suggested I move pitches! Not a very helpful suggestion if we had been staying longer as we would have had to pack up completely and move again. As it was, we were only staying one night which I informed them and received an 'oh well' kind of response.
The site is very large and I would imagine if it was really busy the number of toilets and showers would not be sufficient at all.
The hard standing pitches (which we had) are not at all level and we needed our blocks to level us up.
I wouldn't be rushing back which is a real shame as the camping and caravan sites are usually really good sites.

Busy early May Bank holiday but the owners were organised and it was easy to book and check in. We were camping with friends and you can pitch where you like. Toilets were clean and well stocked. Showers were fairly clean and free. There is a basic shop and drinks machines. A real bonus is the burger van, which also sells things like pulled pork sandwiches and chilli. It is only open at busy times. On the Saturday night there was also a lady with a mobile pizza oven doing a roaring trade. Lots of pot washing areas and water taps in the camping fields. We had lovely weather which helped. Only downside was there is no electric hook up to tents and it was a long way to the toilet block in the middle of the night. We were not troubled by noise and there was security patrolling from time to time. As an infrequent camper I enjoyed my stay and would visit again.

Really friendly and helpful staff, clean toilets and free shower area, no queuing at all. We were camping, the bins were regularly emptied and field was clean. only criticisms are the tents were packed very close together and we were quite a way from toilet. Overall really good time thank you

Love this site! Amazingly clean and well run. August 2012 bank holiday firework show spectacular. Will definitely be returning here for a future stay. Would also love to stay in one of the barns with a group of people. Felt safe and friendly. Downside was it pretty much poured down for the week which is not good whilst camping and the ground did get quite boggy at certain areas we were pitched. Did not cause too much problem as people were just asked to keep cars off the grass and those that didn't got stuck which was there own fault for not listening! Pitch where you wish to with respect to others, please note not all people abide by this rule but security will move them if needed. Excellent play areas.

A great place to stay for a few day's on a hiking break with my girlfriend's, this was a relatively cheap break for us all, we had the barn for ten and there was seven of us, this gave us plenty of space for all our luggage. The setting is great with plenty of lovely walks in the area. We did nine miles on our arrival on the Friday which turned out to be the worst day with pretty much constant rain in the afternoon, up over the nine ladies stone circle, a fabulous area, down to Cauldwells Mill Craft Centre (which is a great place) and back to base.
Onto Buxton the next day then back to Bakewell and a little retail therapy. Who wouldn't like Bakewell!!
There are two pub's within the village for evening meals (take a torch to guide you to the road). we had a nice meal at each one, then back to the barn for more drinking and good time's, even a spot of Northern Soul dancing was enjoyed. The barn has all you need for cooking, we had full cooked breakfast each day. Finally on the Sunday we did a 5 mile circular walk before heading homewards. We all had a great time and will be looking at doing the same thing next year, the weather over the weekend was amazing for October, lovely to see bright red fungas with white spots and allsorts of Autumn nature. A truly lovely place to stay, BOOK IT!
