Had an enjoyable 3 hours at the farm with our 2 x 2yr old grandchildren, they loved feeding the animals and enjoyed getting close up to them. You need to be dressed warmly, wear waterproof gear and wellies to make the most of the farm . Good experience had by all.
Only down point. The changing facilities for babies were dirty so I changed my grand daughter in the car so be prepared

We went with our daughter as she loves these places.
We walked around in about 10 minutes, the place stinks and is a mud bath
The animals are filthy the poor horses were matted and covered in hard dried mud
The birds are crammed into pens way to small
We asked if we could hold the animals indoors a young lad passed a rabbit . No enthusiasm he knew nothing about the animals and they were all unnamed.
I found the place very sad and it unsettled me to see the awful living conditions.
Expensive and pointless

Dear Sue
We are sorry you didn't enjoy our farm park, and that you visited on a cold, wet and miserable day in February.
Nobody cares for animals more than us, our horses and ponies are certainly not 'matted', they do however enjoy rolling around in what would have been a wet field. These animals are brushed several times a week, however we do leave their native winter coats on at this time of year as our park is 1100m above sea level.
As it happens all our horses and ponies were anually inspected just the week before your visit by the local council's vet for our Riding School Licence.
Many of our animals we have at the farm have been rescued and we do our upmost to bring them back to good heath and give them a good home. Our owners have always put the little profit we make back into this small business as the welfare of our animals is paramount.
All farms have a 'stink' to them, ours has by no means a bad one and it is the first time we have been called expensive, there are not many places nowadays where you can take a family of four out for under £20.00
We have several organisations who bring young people with learning disabilities to help out at our farm park. Some may not show great enthusiasm when helping visitors pet the rabbits, but please believe us they are a lovely lot who always look forward to helping us with our animals (who incidently all have names).
We hope you will now look at us more favourably and hopefully give us another visit next time you are in the Matlock area.

The children love this place, lots of animals, a play area, cafe etc. But it is very exposed to the elements, so wrap up warm!

A little apprehensive when pulling into car park, our fears were soon to be allayed. A very friendly welcome and the cheapest of all the attractions we visited in Derbyshire. A quick explanation of what we should and shouldn't feed with the food provided by the owner...and we entered the farm. It is a big sprawling open farm with various animals. The kids (aged 9, 13 and 15) were off...the pigs...the over friendly goats that eat from your hand...the big red deer with crazy antlers...the alpacas with their silly afros...ducks...chickens...llamas...horses...donkeys and god knows what else. And then to the small animal hut. Here, the extremely friendly and helpful staff members, allowed the kids (and slightly nervous adults) to hold the animals (from the cute rats to the huge rabbit and from the rat eating ferrets to the new born ducks.) There was even a micro pig that loved having it's belly tickled and would roll over for you to do so.
On the whole a really great couple of hours spent there and educational for the kids too. The staff couldn't do enough to help and the shop prices are very good (and not overpriced like everything else in the Peaks).
If you struggling for an idea then pop here...excellent.

We had such a fab time at Matlock Farm Park I just had to write a review. There is so much to do. Loads of animals to feed and great park for the kids to play on. We stayed there all day and my son was asking to go again all evening and as soon as he woke up next morning he was asking to go! Well worth a visit!
