We hired all 3 barns for my mates hen do in sept and we were not disappointed! We are aged between late 20's-60's but there was something for everyone. All 3 barns are decorated beautifully and are well kept. In fact they are exactly as they look in the photos! They include more than enough amenities and the owners Martin and Nessie even left a welcome hamper for us! There is no stressful check in/out as we had paid upfront and the keys are left in the door for our arrival, we also ordered an asda shop that was delivered there with no problems. We had the interconnecting doors unlocked so we could move freely throughout and although we were up late dancing in the middle barn, the other guests in the other barns couldn't hear us.
We made use of the lovely outside area, when it wasn't raining! And Martin was extremely helpful when we wanted some walking directions. We also went for a meal at the Bear Inn which is a couple of miles away, the food was fab but if you go at night you need to drive as it's very dark to walk!!
Even though it's location is a little isolated, if your happy to make your own fun then I highly recommend these barns
I have just returned from a fabulous weekend with my husband, children and twelve of our friends to celebrate my 40th birthday. It was the perfect location. The barns themselves are comfortable and beautifully furnished with well equipped kitchens. We took all three barns, which have adjoining doors. The layout was ideal, as we were able to put our two small children to bed in one of the end barns then have dinner and drinking for 14 in the central one.
The location is stunning, surrounded by beautiful countryside (and winding country roads), yet only a few miles outside Derby. My friends have all said they want to come back next year - I think I'm going to have to find an excuse!
We rented all 3 cottages for a family holiday over half-term, self-catering for the whole group of 20 (ranging from a 2 year old to an 85 year old) in the 'Matkins' living room. It was comfortable, clean and well-equipped with plenty of hot water, and the dog was welcomed too.
Lovely surroundings, plenty of interesting places to visit locally, nice walking country. Owners friendly and accommodating. All on the level with some bedrooms downstairs - helpful for our eldest and youngest guests!

We spent ages looking for a suitable location for our 10th wedding anniversary celebration, and we're delighted to find a site with a large field for the marquee and tents, with accommodation for the family who were too old or young to camp. The site and surroundings were perfect, but what made it for us was just how accommodating Martin, Nessie and their family were to us, our friends and family...it was just superb, and a bank holiday weekend to remember for the rest of our lives.
Location, facilities, setting and our hosts all come highly recommended.

We looked at a lot of places (my wife being the diligent sensible type) but as soon as we met Martin and spent 5 minutes walking around the property and looking at the cottages we knew this would be the place.
The Owners, Martin and Nessie are fantastic for a start, whether you're going for a weekend with a big group or a family to celebrate a birthday, or indeed planning on having the big day on the upper field; they were approachable, always pleasant, always accommodating and very friendly. They left it completely up to us to plan and place our various things (marquees, skips, toilets) and at no point injected to tell us we couldn't do something.
If you are trying to plan a home made wedding that suits you, GO HERE; Martin and Nessie will let you have that.
They will give you a list of local companies that know the site (marquees, toilet, skip, catering hire etc. etc.) and offer good rates.
The Venue; HUGE field. Do what you want with it (well, don't salt the earth and set fire to it)!
We popped a marquee in it and made a village fete before having a ceilidh/disco/campfire until very, very late/early.
There is plenty of electric (we had lights, audio equipment, a band, a fridge, a coffee boiler, fridge trailer and didn't blow the circuits).
There is plenty of space, you could easily have a bigger wedding here; as it stands we had 110 guests and filled a quarter of the field with infrastructure, parking and camping.
Photo opportunities on the big day were plenty (including a labyrinth, funky wooden sculpture, flowers galore-courtesy of Martin and Nessie!!!)
The Accommodation; 3 cottages,10 bedrooms, all connected if you need them. With full self-catering facilities available (I managed to do our 3 tier wedding cake there the day before the wedding in one of the kitchens and was fine).
The rooms are lovely en suite (some shared bathrooms in some of the cottages) with car parking, BBQ, picnic benches outside, large tables, sofas, books, tvs, dvd players; the list is endless.
You can book a single cottage if you wish as well of course, as we did before the wedding, and this was absolutely fine.
Great place; really can't say enough we loved every minute of our wedding and a HUGE part of that was the venue and its owners!
Top Tip: recce the route there from wherever you are, the post code does not match up with some SatNavs (beyond the control of the property)
Go here!

I booked all three the barns for my husbands 40th birthday bash and it was absolutely perfect. The accommodation actually seems a lot larger than the impression I had from the website and is all finished to an extremely high standard.
The group was a mix of friends and family of all ages and the large field behind the barns was perfect for a bouncy castle / inflatable sumo ring we hired (from inflatamania in Derby) and a game of rounders.
There is a good pub within walking distance and we also went to Carsington Water which was 5 miles away had a good play area for the kids and coffee shop with a nice view of the reservoir. We didn't go on any other trips as it was only a short break but in the guide the owners left for us it explained a range of activities that were available near by.
There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and the barns are very well equipped. If you are considering a similar party for a large group I cannot recommend enough.

I booked Sycamore Farm Barns as a location for my thirtieth birthday get together. We had a fantastic time.
The cottages are beautifully decorated, well equipped and in a great location. They're on the edge of the Peak District and the nearby village of Wirksworth has just enough shops (and pubs) to while away an afternoon. If that isn't enough, there was even a basket of essentials waiting for us on arrival including local butter, fresh bread, milk and a bottle of wine. A lovely touch!
Book a holiday at Sycamore Farm Barns today...you won't be disappointed!
