Firstly (and most importantly) we had a wonderful time, Cornwall is a beautiful part of the country and I would recommend it to anyone. Secondly, the park itself was idyllic and most of the facilities- pool, park, courts, surrounding woodland were perfect for us as a family.
We stayed in bungalows 20 (my wife and I and 3 children) and 5 (my sister and her 3 children).
It's important at this point that the reader appreciate that these two bungalows are not owned by the current owners of the park, and herein lay the problem. The communication and service provided by the owners of our bungalows prior to (and since) our trip was first class, however the current owners of the park seemed to see us as something of an inconvenience, perhaps because we weren't putting money in their pockets?
We were led to believe (not unreasonably I think) that as guests of the park we would have access to the same facilities as other guests, however we were told that we couldn't pay to use the wi-fi for our bungalow as other guests could. I was told that we couldn't have it as 'we were not in one of their bungalows'! I was then fobbed off with an excuse about poor bandwidth- 1 additional bungalow really would not have made that much of a difference!! We simply wanted to be able to research local attractions and make some online bookings. Perhaps the owners panicked as most of our children were teenagers and assumed that they would be glued to their mobile devices and would slow down the Internet with use of Facebook etc.
Furthermore, when we enquired as to whether we could hire some towels for the week, we were told again that we couldn't have them as we weren't in one of their bungalows and they 'might not get them back'!!! This I found hugely insulting.
We are a respectable family and our children have been brought up well, they are respectful, polite and say please and thank you. Yet the park owners were rude (borderline hostile!) towards them on more than one occasion, strangely enough only when we weren't present.
Whenever I saw the owners around the park, or as driving in or out I always looked towards them and smiled/waved. Yet they rarely acknowledged myself or any of our party.
Having read the reviews on this site there is much positive praise for them, yet we seemed to be treated like second class citizens as we weren't directly customers of theirs. If we had been staying in of their bungalows I'm certain we would have been treated differently.
To me that speaks volumes!
We are keen to return to Cornwall next year but will be looking for alternative accommodation.
