“Beautiful area, lovely park, shame about the owners.”
Reviewed 9 August 2013

Firstly (and most importantly) we had a wonderful time, Cornwall is a beautiful part of the country and I would recommend it to anyone. Secondly, the park itself was idyllic and most of the facilities- pool, park, courts, surrounding woodland were perfect for us as a family.
We stayed in bungalows 20 (my wife and I and 3 children) and 5 (my sister and her 3 children).

It's important at this point that the reader appreciate that these two bungalows are not owned by the current owners of the park, and herein lay the problem. The communication and service provided by the owners of our bungalows prior to (and since) our trip was first class, however the current owners of the park seemed to see us as something of an inconvenience, perhaps because we weren't putting money in their pockets?
We were led to believe (not unreasonably I think) that as guests of the park we would have access to the same facilities as other guests, however we were told that we couldn't pay to use the wi-fi for our bungalow as other guests could. I was told that we couldn't have it as 'we were not in one of their bungalows'! I was then fobbed off with an excuse about poor bandwidth- 1 additional bungalow really would not have made that much of a difference!! We simply wanted to be able to research local attractions and make some online bookings. Perhaps the owners panicked as most of our children were teenagers and assumed that they would be glued to their mobile devices and would slow down the Internet with use of Facebook etc.
Furthermore, when we enquired as to whether we could hire some towels for the week, we were told again that we couldn't have them as we weren't in one of their bungalows and they 'might not get them back'!!! This I found hugely insulting.

We are a respectable family and our children have been brought up well, they are respectful, polite and say please and thank you. Yet the park owners were rude (borderline hostile!) towards them on more than one occasion, strangely enough only when we weren't present.

Whenever I saw the owners around the park, or as driving in or out I always looked towards them and smiled/waved. Yet they rarely acknowledged myself or any of our party.

Having read the reviews on this site there is much positive praise for them, yet we seemed to be treated like second class citizens as we weren't directly customers of theirs. If we had been staying in of their bungalows I'm certain we would have been treated differently.
To me that speaks volumes!

We are keen to return to Cornwall next year but will be looking for alternative accommodation.

Nottermill, Owner at Notter Mill Country Park, responded to this review, 28 August 2013
As we think is evident from the other reviews of Notter Mill we work very hard to ensure that our guests have a good holiday. We are always sorry when someone is disappointed but this complaint is very cheeky and unreasonable.
The reviewer did not stay in accommodation provided by Notter Mill but in a privately owned lodge. The reviewer wanted wifi and towels but the private owner does not provide these. The reviewer therefore knocked on our door asking for them. Although we provide these and other services to guests who buy their holidays from us and stay in our accommodation we do not provide these services to the public or other peoples guests. Of course if he had booked his holiday with us he would have had access to these services. There is therefore no reasonable basis for a complaint.
The reviewer also said that we were “rude and borderline hostile” towards his children. This is not so . Unfortunately there were a number of occasions where we had to intervene with the children in this group because they were not obeying safety rules in the swimming pool area – including young children unaccompanied by an adult and handling pool maintenance equipment. On the first occasion there were 6 children/ teenagers all in their swimming gear without an adult in sight! Being concerned about the safety of such a large number on their own they were reminded of there need to be accompanied by an adult. Where we intervene we do so politely but we may have to do this firmly where children or teenagers do not listen.

We, two adults and two kids (10 and 12) stayed for two weeks in July 2013 in house no. 15. The house was even better than we already expected as was the Notter Mill Park in general. We had a very good time in Cornwall and Devon and after a well spend day we could relax at the nice swimming pool. The park is located in a quiet place and the houses are in a good distance from each other. There are a lot of activities and sites to see in a short (30 - 45 minutes and less) driving distance. Thanks to Celia, Ray and Steve for their services which contributed to a great holiday for us!

When I go on holiday I rarely return to the same place, but we make an exception for this spot! We have stayed in both Tan Harvey 2 and 3 - both chalets are spotless with everything you need. The hot tubs are clean, relaxing and just make the holiday - it is certainly worth paying the extra to get one - expecially after a hard days sightseeing. The location is ideal - you can get to most places in Cornwall in under a few hours, making Notter Mill a great place to return to - without the repetition. Thanks to Ray, Celia and Steve - who once again made another memorable holiday for us.

We enjoyed our two weeks in the cottage n°14. Our son was in a wheel chair, and the rooms and the bathroom were spacious enough for him.
Weather was so good and it was a pleasure to use the barbecue and to eat outside. A really good place for Holiday.
Thank to Ray and Celia for their kindness.

Room Tip: Cottage n°14 is adapted for persons in wheel chair,

We stayed here for a week in July and we had an excellent time. The cottage was clean, comfortable and very well equipped. We enjoyed the hot tub and the swimming pool very much! The only thing what we missed where comfortable chairs outside, since the weather was excellent and we only had one chair and a picknicktable to sit on, on the terrace. But next to this we only can give our compliments to Ray, Celia & Steve for this little Paradise!

We have just stayed here for 2 weeks. It was a wonderful stay. The cottage was so clean, comfortable and the kitchen was excellent. There was just the 2 of us staying at "no 10" and was very spacious. We had a small family get together there of about 40 people and plenty of room in the grounds and inside.
The Notter Bridge pub is just a short stroll away and well worth a visit or maybe 2!!
We would recommend this to anyone, a great peaceful place and close to all amenities, we will certainly stay again on our next trip back to the UK.

Room Tip: we had cottage #10, which is a great size, but all the cottages were well spaced out and plenty of r...

Stayed in Fern Pippin for the first time in June 2013. The bungalow is very clean and has everything supplied you wish for on a self catering holiday. There was two of us so very spacious, although we think a family holiday in the same bungalow would be equally as enjoyable. The hot tub was fab and Ray kept it well maintained.
We would thoroughly recommend this site, it is so quiet and secluded, but not far to join the main road enabling you to explore the rest of Cornwall. Thank you Ray, Celia and Steve.
