Stayed here from Monday to Friday and had a great time. There were quite a few of us and everyone was happy with their rooms. Firstly the rooms had been re-furbished so they were really quite nice. So clean and the bed was really comfy. We were a long way from Reception but the rooms were quiet and really didn't hear a sound from other guests although the place seemed full. I have to be honest and say the rooms are basic but for the price I think it was very fair. The shower was very good but you do have to be able to climb into the bath to use the shower - they have provided lots of handrails and my 82 year old Mum tells me she had no problem at all with the facilities. The location is great for visiting parts of Cornwall and Devon. We got to Looe and Polperro in no time and Plymouth is literally on the other side of the Tamar Bridge - just so you know no charge to cross the bridge into Cornwall but £1.50 per car to cross back! If we had any slight niggles with the travelodge it was leaving only one bath towel in the room which was very annoying and being a bit stingy with tea and coffee supplies but the staff at reception were exceptionally nice and helpful - can't praise them enough.
Now breakfast - if you are anything like our family this can be a critical point. Travelodge only had breakfast boxes (looked terrible value) or Burger King. If you are thinking of going to the Waitrose Cafe think again as it was chaotic and choice was very limited. The Waitrose itself is a very big one and nice to walk around it is just the cafe that is a bit annoying. Get in the car and drive for 5 mins on the A388 to the Tamar Valley Garden Centre where you can have a great cooked breakfast for £3.99. What a smashing place, it opens at 9.00am and you could easily get seated at that time. Service was swift and they fully cater for Vegetarians. We went every day and had a lovely breakfast that set us up for the day. They close at 4.00pm ish or we would have gone back there for dinner one night I am sure. They advertise fresh crab salads and such like and the cakes look magnificent but even we couldn't be tempted at 9.00am!!
All in all this is a great Travelodge, not much in the near vicinity but a handy location for some of the delights of Devon and Cornwall. Basic but clean. Excellent staff. Lovely cafe 5 mins away for breakfast. Good value for money.
