St Mellion is primarily a golf resort - take note if you're looking for a spa hotel, I'd look very carefully before booking.
Golfers rule this place - a good example was that all the disabled bays were taken (even though only one car displayed a badge), reception readily admitted these were all golfers!
The hotel is clean, modern and the spa and gym have excellent (compact) facilities, although the pools were overrun with children on more than one occasion.
There were some strange examples of service -
- we had to ask to change rooms as the first one had a view of the car park;
- we had to proactively ask for the items included in the package - the included dinners, the spa treatments were not offered, we had to go and ask for them and prove that we had paid for them;
- I was told that being served raw vegetables with dinner was a 'training issue' and wasn't offered a replacement.
To be fair to the hotel, each of these issues was addressed quickly and to our satisfaction, but people who aren't so used to asserting themselves may easily be left feeling short changed by a rather brusque management style.
A nice looking hotel, but not yet backed up by the slick service I would expect in this price bracket.More
