“not a problem in Ripon”
Reviewed 12 September 2013

Just got back from The Royal Oak in Ripon (10th Sept 2013), Tony and the staff are to be congratulated on food, presentation and cleanliness. We had room 5 which although being on the front had no problems with noise. We had our evening meal here rather than going elsewhere and what a great choice that turned out to be. All my wife and I can say about the food is how good it was, great choice of drinks, and attentive service made for a great evening meal. If you keep irregular hours there is direct access to accommodation without the need to go via the "pub" entrance. All in all, a little gem just off the main square, will be staying here when next in Ripon

Room Tip: rooms 5 & 6 are at the front, if you prefer "very quiet" ask for a room at the back

We just had food though I think its rare to find such a gem.

The Royal Oak ticked all of the boxes for me and being in the service industry I can be extremely picky!

Wonderful surroundings, lovely friendly service and the food is perfect. I had the rump steak and my partner the gammon followed each by a trio of ice creams.

Reasonable prices too. I would not hesitate coming back.

My wife and I recently had a stopover in this hotel and found it to be very good. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The room we had was well presented and clean with all that you will need for a pleasant stay. The hotel is in an excellent location close to the local attractions and restaurants and bars. We also enjoyed the food, as it also was of a very good standard. Overall a very good place to stay and we will definitely would stay here again.

We stopped off here while cycling the way of the roses and were looked after from the minute we entered to the minute we left.
The evening meal and breakfast were excellent and the choice of beers at the bar was vast.

Found this through Trip Advisor, Great Pub, but Hotel pat a bit disappointing stairs and hallway smelt damp and the room was very warm we were in No 6 ,which was clean and comfortable but was very warm so we had to sleep with the window open not realizing that there was a club next door which was open till 3am hence no sleep...
unfortunately we could not sample the menu as they stopped serving food at 7pm Sunday but the breakfast was superb and the staff were very friendly.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back and also if in the summer ask for a fan

Second time we have stayed at this hotel and was just as good. Location is perfect just around the corner from the the market square. Restaurant menu looked good but we didn't try. Rooms are small but have everything you need. Beds are very comfortable. Our bathroom had a bath but some only have showers. Tea, coffee, water and biscuits provided complimentary. Hotel only has 6 rooms and they are all on the same level, which does have a few steps to get too but nothing to worry about although there is no lift. Lovely courtyard out the back which is a great sun trap. Also free small car park which you can access by driving past the hotel and turning left where there is a sign for a pub called the warehouse. Its easy to miss as we drove around twice before we saw it, if you get to the cathedral then you have gone too far! Breakfast was very good with a choice of full english, smoked haddock omelette, pastries, veggie option full english or porridge. We asked for extra tea and toast and it was brought with no problems. Would recommend 100% and will be back.

Room Tip: Our room had a bath but my mum's didn't only a shower so ask if you prefer a bath. Plus the...

We stayed between christmas and new year last year and whilst there we booked for 17th August, as it was Ripon races that day, tried to book for July but booked up. Since last there menu had been changed and some refurbishment done, both were a hit with us. I phoned two weeks before and confirmed with Tony, he advised booking a table, excellent idea! The staff are wonderful. I had the gammon steak, to die for. We started with home made root veg crisps, spot on. Excellent beer in the bar, room 1 was our bivouac as previously used, large comfy bed, ideally suitable for a good nights sleep or bedroom gymnastics if you have not been too tempted by the menu and bar front. We are going again. Can't wait. Superb breakfast choice i had smoked salmon and scrambled egg, yum yum. What are you waiting for an invite, get it booked!!

Room Tip: If you are one of lifes grumpy moaners book a room at the back for less street noise, we had no trou...
