We took all 6 rooms on our golfing/walking weekend Fri/Sat night .We all had a great stay the staff were second to none Tony and Kat especially we had dinner on the Friday night and the cuisine is superb there wasn't a moan from any of the 12people in out society , As for the parking Tony had made it that we could park the four cars behind but we were prepared to used the long stay at £2.50 for the day only about 100 yards away ,We had stayed here before and had a good weekend but the alterations and reverb had been done to a real good standard and made it even better .
The hotel is well located for attractions other pubs and restaurants and the market .

Give it a try We will be back

We stayed here on our way back south after visiting friends in Scotland. Our satnav found the hotel OK, on a limited access road in the city centre, but getting into the "car park" (a piece of waste ground behind the hotel and neighbouring buildings) was tricky, in part because of inconsiderate parking on double yellows opposite the entrance by a Chelsea Tractor. However, once we made contact with the hotel staff they sorted us out and made us very welcome. Being an old coaching Inn we were not surprised to find our room at the top of several flights of stairs (this hotel does not cater for disabled) but it was adequate with a comfortable bed & bathroom. The ground floor bar & restaurant has been heavily modernised into a bistro style with a good choice of ales and wines etc. Having reviewed the menu we booked a table for dinner before going out to look around the cathedral & its environs.
The restaurant is obviously much loved as it was almost full when we went down to eat, with more people arriving during our meal and others eating at the bar. Having difficulty choosing what to eat and having discussed it with the very helpful waiter I chose the "Sticky Ripon Beef" and was very glad I did. This was possibly one of the best dishes I have ever eaten. Slow-cooked, succulent in a mouth watering gravy this was a meal to savour, and savour it I did.
Breakfast the following morning was freshly cooked to order and very acceptable. All in all a very nice stopover. If we are ever in the area again we shall certainly stay here - assuming that we can park!

Room Tip: Only saw one so difficult to advise, though all are up stairs.

If you like a comfortable and busy restaurant with rooms, then this is it. The pub/restaurant is open-plan with clearly demarcated cosy areas. We had a delicious dinner in the restaurant area and an equally good breakfast in another, both served by attentive and friendly staff. Our room is freshly decorated, scrupulously clean, very comfortable and surprisingly quiet given the central location. The decor is contemporary but has retained original features. Although housekeeping should check to ensure there are sufficient towels etc. for the number of guests this did not detract from our stay.

The hotel has limited car parking behind the building accessed via a small lane on the left immediately after the hotel. If you get as far as the cathedral you have gone too far.

A really good evening meal at the Royal Oak in Ripon. A lot of the other restaurants in Ripon were rather dead and empty that evening but the Royal Oak had a bit of life in it and a very comfortable restaurant it is. A lovely plate of pork belly on a layer of mash with greens etc, my wife had the beef dish and both were excellent accompanied by a couple glasses of house wines. Friendly efficient service and highly recommended. Will return next time we are in Ripon.

This is the second year we have stayed at this great pub hotel. Myself and my three golfing chums had another excellent stay. Extremely comfortable and beautifully furnished rooms, and a truly great breakfast, served by very friendly and attentive staff. We will certainly be back and would thoroughly recommend the Royal Oak. Thank you

A few of us stopped by for lunch after a canal walk. The welcome was warm, the ale was lovely and the food was delicious. We all ate off the saver lunch menu which did not compromise on quality whatsoever. Beer glazed pulled pork ciabattas with perfectly golden chips and a crisp blonde ale for £7 is fantastic in my book. I would not hesitate to visit again when I'm next in Ripon!

Just got back from The Royal Oak in Ripon (10th Sept 2013), Tony and the staff are to be congratulated on food, presentation and cleanliness. We had room 5 which although being on the front had no problems with noise. We had our evening meal here rather than going elsewhere and what a great choice that turned out to be. All my wife and I can say about the food is how good it was, great choice of drinks, and attentive service made for a great evening meal. If you keep irregular hours there is direct access to accommodation without the need to go via the "pub" entrance. All in all, a little gem just off the main square, will be staying here when next in Ripon

Room Tip: rooms 5 & 6 are at the front, if you prefer "very quiet" ask for a room at the back
