A stunning National Trust property set in a beautiful setting. A huge ruined monastery, but with much of its outer walls still standing. You could spend most of the day just exploring the ruins and imagining what it used to look like (there is a model of the completed site nearby if you want), but there is also the stunning scenery and deer park to explore. Great visitors' centre too with very helpful staff.

Lovely to visit in summer or winter (in December there was the beautiful sound of carol singers from inside the Abbey).

Entry costs can feel pricey, but it's worth it if you intend to spend the day and if you plan to visit sites like this often, then join the National Trust and it gives you free access to all its sites. If you pay the higher Gift Aid price for entry, the National Trust gets a tax payment from the Government too to keep the site running.

Well worth a visit. We were lucky enough to visit when a choir was in the Abbey singing Christmas Carols. The grounds are beautiful to walk around

This is now my favourite of the National Trust sights that ive visited. The scenery is out of this world, the history and the tranquility of Fountains Abbey is first class. The cafes make an A* cup of tea as well! Some areas might be tricky with a pushchair but you could get round most of the grounds. Will definately be visiting again!
