Wonderful day out with beautiful herbaceous gardens, peaceful areas, lovely walks. The cafe area is perfect with outdoor seating and delicious homemade scones. Everyone is made very welcome with a helpful staff.
The house visits are well worth it and experience guides give a wealth of information on the history of the very gracious and beautifully appointed house.
Just a super day out in North Yorkshire.

This house is in a lovely setting and after parking the car we were expecting great things but were very disappointed. We did not take a tour of the house so cannot comment on that aspect. We visited to see the gardens. Apart from the double herbaceous borders leading from the house down to the river which were ok, the rest of the gardens were unkempt and overgrown with weeds. The rose garden looked more like a jungle, there were no blooms in evidence and this in early August! The other individual gardens didn't fare much better. There are a great many urns near the house on the terrace which were completely empty! After paying £10 each we expected more. This may be ok for families but if it's gardens you want then there is much better nearby and FREE! Valley Gardens in Harrogate for example.

I have waited a long time to come here, and driven some distance. How very irritating to find the house closed due to a wedding. This seems increasingly common, alas.
The rest of the visit was excellent. Lovely, varied gardens, excellent food, pleasant staff.

My 3 daughters and I decided to meet up my friend and her 3 children at Newby Hall yesterday.
What a great day for it too. The sun was shining and the grounds look amazing.
Plenty for the kids to do, they didn't know what to do first. Train, pedalos, park, gardens.
Not too expensive to get in either for 8 £61.
We arrived at 11.30 took a picnic and before we knew it it was 5.15. So money worth spent.
Would definitely be back.

Loverly place to take children although very expensive if you include a guided tour of the house.£14 entry fee.gardens £9.do take a picnic as the cost of a meal in the restaurant is very pricey although very nice.lots of activities for the children .The little train ride around the ground is a must. This house and gardens are impossible to get to if you don't own a car as there is no regular bus service from Ripon. And there is a long walk from the village along the drive to the house.other wise a brilliant day out for the family.
