Newby Hall was a treasured memory ; I always used to refer to it as my favourite english country house & garden to visit.
Sadly like all things modern ised or improved for our better enjoyment HA!!!

style now rules over substance, and yes money or the taking of it, seems to rule here, rather than the giving of value for it.
The atmosphere was dreadful, the staff were so miserable, and this was conveyed to the 'paying public'...
i did wonder if i was being too nostalgic of past visits, but i see even younger people with families also came away disatisfied..
maybe it s time to admit Newby HATES the public intrusion and possibly they could look to other ways to make the hall pay it's own way...

I would not truly advise anyone to go there expecting a pleasant visit any more, even though the roses in early summer were outstanding, the 'price' to pay to see them was too high, I came away very saddened rather than elated as i have always done in previous visits..

Visited just the gardens with 5 & 6 year olds. Thought the price of £24 for a family was quite good value for a day out. There is not actually that much in the Adventure Park but it is in a nice setting and kids did enjoy themselves. We also walked round the gardens, which are very nice. Miniature Railway is not covered in the entrance price; it will cost an extra £6 for a family of 4. Not very impressed by the fact that this is not mentioned on the Newby Hall web site.
We all found the sculpture park very interesting but cut our visit short to return to the Adventure Park as kids wanted a last go on the Pedaloes. We arrived back at 16:05 and the staff member said he was closing. He would not allow the children on and was packed up and gone by 16:20. I did not think this was on as the advertised closing time for the garden is 17:30.
Worth a visit, have a walk round the sculpture park, prepare to pay for the train & make sure kids have had a decent go on the Pedaloes early.
