“Enjoyable stay for family wedding”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2014

Very enjoyable stay for a family wedding. The hotel was extremely friendly, helpful and quality of service was at a high level. Room was very well decorated, with all the expected facilities. Breakfast very good.

This hotel has a traditional feel to it. The staff are friendly and helpful, but not overwhelming.
The receptionists were welcoming and were able to quickly find a space for my husband to leave his mobility scooter without any fuss.
Our room overlooked the croquet lawn, and had a separate bathroom, and an area to put coats.
The birdsong in the morning and evening was amazing.
The breakfasts are freshly cooked and very tasty with plenty of choice.
We had two meals in the Turf Tavern, and these were also high-quality and efficiently served.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back of the hotel overlook the gardens.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. The birdsong this spring has been amazing! We are so lucky to have such lovely gardens and croquet lawns and still be in the city centre.

Booked this hotel at the last minute on the morning of our stay (1 night) as we were on our way to Harrogate for the weekend we decided to stop off at Ripon. The hotel was very olde worlde which we like receptionist was welcoming and friendly, we had an excellent room nice and big one double and one single bed, big bathroom (only gripe was the shower pressure wasn't that good, unless we didn't work it right) the room was overlooking the hotel terrace and croquet lawns and you could go out onto the fire escape which acted as our own private balcony. As the sun was shining we decided to have coffee and a glass of a champagne on the hotel terrace and watched a croquet match which we didn't know they played croquet in Ripon ...you learn something everyday ...it was very quaint essential ..a bit like midsummer murders ....I expected someone being murdered on the croquet field :) ha ha
The hotel bar was nice and welcoming and bar staff friendly, we didn't eat in the bar but the food I saw looked lovely and plenty of clean plates.
We had a stroll in Ripon (10 mins walk from the hotel) lovely market square a couple of pubs, went into weatherspoons but walked straight out again every room people were eating, children running around and it was dark and dingy so we went to the next one Royal Oak and that was lovely and bright and we had something to eat there and that was good and well presented.
You can visit ripon cathedral have a stroll down the canal.
After a comfortable nights sleep we headed for breakfast and it was lovely not to queue for a buffet, you help yourself to fruit cereal etc, and your breakfast is cooked to order which was excellent and lovely and hot, ( we both had the full English but I had mine with spot on poached eggs) You could also choose (for approx£3 extra eggs Benedict, omelettes, and skippers)

We definitely recommend this hotel if you are in the area
As we stayed on a Thursday night the hotel was quiet but at the weekend and especially on race days it will be busy.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 16 lovely .....great for a family or 3 people sharing, views lovely

This is a proper hotel. Our bathroom was a good size(not an after-thought in the corner) with a proper bath and loads of hot water. After a drenching walk, I was glad of it. The lady in the Turf Bar really looked after us and with a bottle of house wine at £12.95, the meal bill wasn't painful at all.
At breakfast, along with the usual suspects you can order black pudding, poached eggs and beans as piping hot extras, together with crisp(ier) bacon and porridge. The serving staff were charm and efficiency personified.
You know, for only a few pounds more, this place knocks spots off Bed and Breakfasts....

We had a brilliant stay in February 2014. The Hotel is full of character and spotlessly clean. Very dog friendly!! They do not charge for dogs and everyone was so accommodating even to giving us a bigger room with a fantastic view over the gardens. Our little dog Toby was in heaven :). We had a deal for bed and breakfast for two nights plus a voucher for a meal for one evening. We could not fault the food or service and all the staff were extremely friendly.

We would definately recommend this hotel and look forward to staying with them again.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the garden are very spacious and sunny.

We stayed at the Ripon Spa Hotel for our visit to Ripon races. We booked the £97 Platinum package which included a superior room upgrade, dinner, bed, breakfast, entry to the races for the Club Stand, taxis to and from the racecourse and half a bottle of champagne.

We didn't expect much from the food as there was so much included in the package, however we were very impressed. My husband had lamb chops which were the best we had tasted and I had the steak and ale pie. Dinner was up to £25 each to spend so we enjoyed 3 courses.

The hotel is a gem and it was great to stay there to help keep the hotel going. We had a walk around the gardens after the lovely cooked breakfast, which was served in the ballroom.

Ideally positioned for a walk into Ripon and the garden next door have a lovely cafe, crazy golf and putting green which were great for an easy start to the day.

We highly recommend the package, it was so easy with the taxis, racecourse entry and everything included.

Room Tip: We had a superior room, it was spacious, comfortable and fabulous views of the gardens.
