This short break started out as a Red Letter Day flying experience gift I was given. It was to be a one hour flight in a light aircraft in which at some point you take the controls yourself. Nearest participating airfield to me is Blackpool. I wasn't really into the idea of my wife hanging around bored for a couple of hours, then the thought of having to spend the rest of the day in Blackpool was the decider. I exchanged the voucher for a 'Foodie Experience' at Swinton Park and boy was I glad I did!

The whole package was as follows. Afternoon tea at 3pm, lovely tea and cakes, option of sandwiches at additional cost but we gave them a miss due to having had an Olympic breakfast courtesy of one of the few remaining Little Chefs in Skipton en route. Next part of the package was exclusive use of the spa hot tub and sauna for an hour. Next we took a stroll around the beautiful grounds and had a look at the deer herd on an adjoining field. There's a walled garden and an aviary with birds of prey (the hotel offers falconry experiences and displays). We were on our own as a couple but there is also a kids play area.

The day was rounded off with a nine course foodie experience from the Sinature Tasting Menu. The food was scrumptious and everything was done, presented and described in a really unpretentious manner. I haven't done a lot of posh dining but when I have in the past I have felt a little uneasy, in contrast this was a lovely relaxing experience.

Every member of staff that we came into contact with was worthy of praise, a most helpful group of people obviously taking great pride and care in their profession. Quite a refreshing change from what I call the, 'Have a nice day' culture where everybody in the service industry seem to talk from a script nowadays.

Very well done and thanks for a great time! Oh, nearly forgot. Thanks for the complimentary drinks in our room on arrival!

Room Tip: Our room was upstairs facing the deer field. There was a low window around 6" from the floor wi...

This hotel is so beautiful and excellent service. Outside our window were herds of fallow deer and a river with swan and duck. It was wonderful to wake up to this sight every day. The food is excellent and the downstairs dining and drawing rooms are grand rooms. We did half day of falconry which we thoroughly enjoyed as well as had massages at the spa. There are so many things that are offered at the hotel to do. I would definitely go back again

We had a fantastic stay and could not have been made to feel more welcome! The room was beautiful and was laid out specifically for our anniversary! Staff are very friendly and helpful. We will most definitely be back.

To celebrate my birthday I booked an overnight stay at the swinton park hotel on arrival the first sight of the hotel and grounds was superb, staff very helpful and friendly. On arrival at the suite I was a little disappointed by the tired furniture and scruffy stained carpet also the the room had a lack of character. The dinner that night was spectacular and the staff first class, however the dirty paintwork around the windows and the window shutters could have easily put others off wondering how scruffy the kitchens might be as bad as the dining room? When I pointed out the dirt to the housekeeper the next morning her comment was well the dining room is due to be reprinted as if that was a excuse foe dirt in a dining room!! Best hotel in yorkshire No that title still lies with Devonshire arms judging from our experience by along way.

My fiancé and I stayed for one night. It's a lovely place, set in lovely grounds. The place is very peaceful and relaxing. The best thing though is Samuels restaurant. The food is top drawer and the staff are even better, at dinner and breakfast, we loved it all.
Also, we stayed in the Pickering, an earlier reviewer said not to stay there. We found it to be a lovely room, the bed and pillows to be very comfy and certainly found nothing wrong with the position of the bed. Unfortunately, I had smoked haddock for breakfast and so can't comment on the sausage ;-)
Mervin, the porter was also a lovely gentleman.

We stayed here on the 11th August for 2 nights following our wedding. We stayed in the Turret Suite and it was beautiful. The hotel was amazing and the food was very impressive. It is ideal for chilling out and relaxing - it was just what we needed, it was a real treat. The staff were very attentive, there were some really nice personal touches, the staff knew that we were on our honeymoon and this was mentioned by 2 or 3 members of staff. We would recommend this hotel to others it is just amazing.

Room Tip: The turret room was lovely - very impressive

We stayed here on the way home from Edinburgh. The grounds are superb and the wholehotel very old style. Rooms are very large and quaint.

We stayed in the Bolton Castle suite.

The restaurant food was fantastic, right sized portions with fantastic flavour and choice.
