“Very posh spa day :)”
Reviewed 27 April 2014 via mobile

Never felt so posh coming here. Came on a hen Doo for a spa day. Taxi dropped us off at door and doormen were waiting for us, they showed us around and then took us to spa. Got changed into complimentary dressing gown and slippers and then showed to our own private room with lounges, sauna and hot tub. We also had a glass of prosecco :)

We then had an hours massage each which was lovely and then an afternoon tea and prosecco in a private drawing room. Food amazing and room lovely.

The place itself is beautiful, very grand and architecture amazing. Staff nice, clean and there's deers on the grounds.

Would definatley come again, it was a very different spa experience than normal but this was why it was so special!

It is difficult to find anything new to say about Swinton Park. We have stayed on a number of occasions and it is without doubt our favourite hotel - outstanding in all respects. This time we stayed in The Turret - quite an experience - just loved it! With some hotels, you wonder on your return whether it will be the same - will it be as good as the last visit. Well, yes Swinton Park is -if anything better - it always delivers to ensure a wonderful stay.

Unbeatable - food. staff, surroundings all lovely - thank you Swinton Park.

Room Tip: facing the parkland if possible

Went here for our two year anniversary, the room was superb and had one of the largest bathrooms imaginable. Our suitcase was taken to our room for us which was a lovely touch. The breakfast the next day was exceptional and we was made to feel welcome.

Booked to have an owl experience day and was amazing! Very informative and was the cherry on top to our trip here. Will definately be visiting again and again

An object lesson in how to run a country house hotel. Manages to create the feeling of being a house guest rather than a customer. We were there for their (somewhat pretentiously named) Gourmet Weekend in March 2014 and could not praise this hotel highly enough. The standard of the food and the quality of the service was fantastic and a special mention to Tom the GM who was always around to make sure things were "just so". Lovely big comfortable room with a great view across the front grounds. We enjoyed walking the huge estate and visited Masham while there. The Gourmet Weekend events were very well organised and informative, and complemented one another well.

Went with great expectations for dinner on Easter Sunday.
No one to meet us at the door nor in reception.Wandered the long corridors and eventually found the dining room.Asked if we would like a drink in The Drawing Room to which we assented. Two seating areas occupied but all other tables except one uncleared with the remnants of drinks, tea and sandwiches etc. Staff( many ) came and went with no thought of clearing them.it looked like a motorway service stop!
Everything cleared eventually including our glasses with no thought of asking if we would like another(which we would have)
Went to the dining room and everything changed! Food was quite excellent and atmosphere was convivial and busy.
Just a shame that the amuse bouche was served in a way that was impossible to eat without a spoon which wasn't provide, that my wife and I were served each others meals, that the wine ordered for the starter didnt arrive until we had almost finished and that my credit card was removed from the table and not brought back as it was assumed that we were residents and had signed for the bill.
I was given a free glass of wine but that is not the point.Swinton Park has an enormous reputation, is a beautiful building and serves great food but there was no obvious love or care.

SwintonPark, General Manager at Swinton Park, responded to this review, 7 May 2014
Thank you for taking the time to let us know about the poor service you encountered when you visited Swinton Park for dinner on Easter Sunday. I’m so sorry to hear that our usually high standards were not maintained as they should have been. It was a very busy day and we had some fairly new staff working, which may explain how some of these issues occurred, but I do not offer these as excuses. I have reviewed the points you raised with our senior staff and tasked them with amending service training and providing better supervision, to ensure such problems are not repeated. On a more positive note, I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed your meal and that our staff offered some redress for their shortcomings by giving you a complimentary glass of wine.

When Julian Fellowes created "Downton Abbey," we seriously suspect that he may have been inspired by the Cunliffe-Lister family and their ancestral castle home, which has been exquisitely transformed into a modern spa hotel (manned by a very attentive and friendly staff) that still retains its historical atmosphere and features. We spent a very relaxing 2-day mini-break here, staying in the very comfortable and beautifully-appointed Bradford room. The spacious room and equally-spacious adjoining bathroom (with modern plumbing fixtures) were both super clean and furnished with amenities including complimentary spirits and Molton Brown toiletries. If we weren't leisurely strolling along the estate's woodland walking paths, we could be found just sitting on our room's window bench gazing out at the nearby lake and the herd of wild deer grazing just beyond it.

During our stay, we also partook in the spa's "massage for two" package (which I highly recommend). We cannot say enough about the very professional and personally-attentive spa staff, who gave us both one of the better massages we had ever received. I had been suffering from some lower-back pain prior to our visit, and I left that room totally rejuvenated. This was augmented with an additional post-massage hour in the VERY PRIVATE Spa Room, which has a relaxation area, steam sauna, and a cedar hot tub. The room is scheduled separately, but it is exclusively yours during the appointed time (you need not worry about anyone unexpectedly walking in on you).

Shall we discuss food? Neither breakfast or dinner could be faulted in any way. Nutritious and delicious. Utilising locally-sourced ingredients, the menus for both are far from ordinary and clearly demonstrate that the executive chef has creatively invested plenty of time and effort to provide guests with a culinary experience (including a commendable wine list) which will not disappoint. Nor were we disappointed with our drinks at the bar; I had a pre-dinner vodka martini which would have made James Bond nod with approval.

The icing on the cake? A personally-written letter posted to us at our home from the general manager, thanking us for our visit. That speaks volumes.

Will we return for another visit? ABSOLUTELY.
Do we highly recommend Swinton Park to others seeking a very special short getaway? ABSOLUTELY.
