A warm welcome was had on our arrival , however we were allocated a room not to the spec we re-quested. After a chat with the manager an offer was made to try and located another hotel to our liking.Due to fatigue we decided to stay put. Our room was warm clean an cosy with a good view of the cathedral. The evening meal was well presented and tasty , with a complementary glass of champagne in lieu of our earlier dissapointment. The breakfast was cereal etc to which you helped yourselves and the cooked full english was prepared and delivered to the table. It hit the spot.
All in all the old deanery is a good place to stay with ample car parking and grounds to stroll .around

Room Tip: Further to discussions with the manager a new system has been put in place to ensure customer satisf...

We were upset to get this wrong but so glad that you were moved to stay and make the best of us. The rooms are now allocated with all kinds of remarks and DO NOT MOVE being the order of the day so as not to have such disappointments again. You were more than fair in your review thank you.

We came to The old Deanery for New Years Eve again. Just a fantastic evening all round.
From the warm welcome to our eventual departure, the staff were friendly and attentive throughout.
The food was exquisite and we enjoyed every mouthful.
We will be back again.

There are a few occasions in the year where I work and enjoy my hotel restaurant at the same time..New year is one of them and I thoroughly enjoyed this year - maybe because dancing was back on the agenda, the company was excellent and certainly the food and wine helped!!

As soon as we walked into this place it was a magical, the Christmas tree full of sparkles a roaring fire and greeted by friendly warm Yorkshire welcome from Brett. We booked in for the night as we'd planned a pre-Christmas weekend in York however the wasn't a bed to be found until we fell upon this place in Ripon - and how lucky it turned out for us that York was fully booked!

Our bags where taken to the room and we went down to the bar to take advantage of the glorious open fire and have a drink. It's the little things that make all the difference, like the fact a place for dinner was offered to us even though they had a full house and a party booking on the same night.

There was a pre-recital reception for the parents of pupils from Sedbergh School in the bar when we arrived and we managed to secure some tickets for the performance at Ripon Cathedral - it all fitted in really well and the performance was an absolute treat.

We took a 3 course evening meal and it was simply stunning - it's such a blessing to eat food when it's crafted and served by people who have a passion for fresh local produce. Each course was prepared well and complimented the next.

After dinner we returned to the lounge bar beside the fire before retiring to our room which was toasty warm and well appointed with fluffy towels & robes. There was a varied selection of complimentary drinks and waters. Crisp fresh bedding ensured we had a wonderful nights sleep to the gentle chimes of the cathedral bells.

Waking up to glorious sunshine we headed to breakfast to find a a wide selection of fresh homemade pastries, juices and fresh local produce in the form of a traditional full English with lashing s of tea & coffee.

Back to the lounge to digest the Sunday papers we had the chance to meet and chat to some of the housekeeping team who where busy clearing up from the night before. They where all very friendly and seemed to really enjoy their work. They spoke very highly of the hotel owner and the work they all put in to make the hotel a great place to stay - what they didn't realise is that they are part of the team that help to make this place such a success.

We enjoyed this place so much that we decided to book another stay during Christmas and the New Year. For people who love to travel and stay where quality and service are a given, then this place is a must - it's a real gem.

Thank you to all the team, we look forward to staying with you again real soon.

This is a perfect review - so much so that i have to stress that we are not family! The whole team thanks you for "getting" what we are all about . I wish it could be cold outside all the time, personally, that's how much I love that fire in the bar!

We visited in December 2013 and the Christmas decorations were lovely, the open fireplace just added to the charm. The staff we saw were helpful and friendly. Our room was fantastic and we loved the quality of the complimentary items, hotels just don't do this sort of quality anymore so it makes hotels that do seem so much better.

Only two negatives we had were breakfast on one day was a little slow and the hotel was a bit noisy late at night due to some inconsiderate guests that had been attending a party there.

All in all it was a great place to stay, I think value for money and I can't recommend it highly enough!

Room Tip: Well worth a stay

I am delighted and hope to see you again. We love the Christmas atmosphere but its true that it can mean noisier leavers than usual. We try to make sure people are forewarned so they can make an informed decision. I do not know what happened at your breakfast but it is rarely a late chef, even more rarely a dropped plate but sometimes the orders all come in together and it is slower than we want. it to be. We shall see what we can do about it.

We have stayed in and eaten at The Old Deanery. On many occasions and have never been disappointed. Our last visit was no exception, we were welcomed warmly and delt with professionally. We had dinner there on the second night and once again it was faultless. The rooms are huge and clean, warm and comfortable, the breakfasts are varied and delicious. We hope to be going back very soon.

Room Tip: The rooms which overlook the gardens are quieter.

Stayed here for one night whilst working away. I was hoping for something really nice after a number of stays in the usual chains, and was pleasantly surprised by the location, warm welcome, and uniqueness of the rooms.
You always hope to fall onto a gem when you stay away whilst working and this is definitely 24 carat.
I will definitely visit the Old Deanery again but with my wife on a leisurely weekend.
Whilst eating out this time (bad move) I will most definitely eat at the hotel when returning.
The owners are wonderful and engaging which adds to the whole event. Those lucky enough to stay here should love every minute.

Business customers can sometimes be set in work mode and need more relaxing than most! This is a great compliment as we try to give a genuine and appropriate welcome to all our guests.

Looking forward to welcoming you again

I have just realised I didn't submit a review on here following our wedding last June. The Old Deanery was absolutely fantastic! I cannot recommend them enough. Linda and her team couldn't have been more helpful and the venue made for a beautiful intimate day.

All the rooms were lovely and the food was absolutely delicious and a much higher standard than at several other weddings I have attended recently, including one at a very well regarded hotel in Harrogate.

Prior to our wedding we also had dinner and afternoon tea and the food and service was excellent at them all. I only wish I could go back and do it all again!

Wedding in 2012, reviewed in 2013 and response from t'management in 2014! Apologies all round but it was definitely a good one. I hope you didn't upset any friends with your food comparisons at weddings!
