Stayed at the Old Deanery for one night in June whilst exploring the area. We had a large bedroom with super spacious bathroom. We arrived a little early and were made very welcome with complimentary coffee in the lovely garden whilst our room was being prepared. Both breakfast and evening dinner in the hotel were excellent. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful. In fact the overall service we experienced was terrific. Thanks to everyone - we had a great time. Highly recommended.

Such a lovely review - all your kind words will be passed on to the staff here on your behalf. Check-in time is 2pm, however we strive to get the hotel turned around as quickly as possible so we can allow check-in earlier. It is a shame on the time of your visit this was not the case but I'm glad you could experience our stunning gardens in the meantime. Both dinner and breakfast is now served in our garden room, so even if its a bit chilly outside our guests can still appreciate the beautiful willows that peer over our back lawn. The quality of food has to match the quality of the atmosphere of course though, and I'm glad our young team of chefs provided you with great food throughout your stay.

Kind regards,
Chris - Manager

We had a 3 night stay at the old Deanery. The building is as its name implies is old about 400 years but has been completely refurbished inside without losing its feel. The staircase is magnificent.
Our room no.9 was right at the top and had plenty of space, a bed/settee a desk and chair, TV, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, wi-fi and plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. There was one small window facing the Cathedral. The bathroom was spacious and airy and had larger windows facing both towards the Cathedral and across the rooftop in the direction of the garden neither window was overlooked. The shower was excellent, quick to respond and fully adjustable. The small window and stone construction meant that even though it was hot weather we didn't suffer from a room like a greenhouse. The staff were, to a person, great - friendly, considerate and very keen to please.
Breakfasts were served in a room overlooking the lovely gardens and provided a very good choice of cereals, milk, yogurt and fully customisable english cooked breakfasts with good coffee or various types of tea. The spacing of the tables was, to my mind, just right - not too close but close enough to be able to greet other guests.
We had one evening meal at The Old Deanery and thoroughly enjoyed it although we felt the choice was not very large. The meal and good wine were reasonably priced. The restaurant was a pleasant place to eat.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the garden will be less likely to be bothered by the Cathedral clock on hot nights when...

Its great to hear you enjoyed your time with us and appreciated all the little aspects of your room. I have to admit, room 9 with its exposed beams and huge bathroom is a personal favourite. As you said, our building dates back around 400 years to 1625 when it was built for the Dean of Ripon. Although it has been subtly changed over the years for commercial use, many of the traditional features still remain; notably our magnificent stair case, leading up to all the unique bedrooms (many of which still have the old fireplaces from when it was home to the Dean). With the arrival of our new head chef, our menu has been totally re-vamped and if you choose to dine with us again, I'm sure you will enjoy the greater range of dishes now on offer. We look forward to welcoming you back here soon.

Kind regards,
Chris - Manager

Stayed in the hotel for one night whilst my husband was doing the "way of the roses". Very nice double room. Comfortable size bathroom (shower). Bar price was reasonable for predinner drinks. There is a lovely Italian about a 5min walk away for those who don't want to dine I the restaurant. The breakfast was ample ranging from cereal and juice to a choice of a full English.
Would deffinately stay again as Ripon has a lot of nice little shops to have a look around.

Charming old world hotel, with large rooms and excellent facilities Service could not be faulted and the breakfast was excellent. Bit on the price side though..Although very close to cathedral the bells were not particularly noisy.

I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay with us and got to appreciate the wonderful bells of Ripon cathedral, just opposite. All our prices are fairly tailored to the category of room and all include breakfast as standard in this price, however I would like to apologise that you felt we were a bit on the pricey side during your stay. We look forward to welcoming you back here soon.

We stayed four nights, and the location was ideal; lovely building and friendly staff. We didn't have an evening meal but breakfasts were good. We enjoyed kippers, eggs florentine and porridge at breakfast. Nice view of garden from the breakfast room. Splendid view of cathedral from our room but this had its disadvantages, organ and bell ringing practices in the evenings plus normal clock bell chiming We were in Room 11, which is at the top of lots of stairs. See room tips for more on Room 11. We would stay again but not in Room 11.

Room Tip: Room 11 fine if you like to listen to bells at cathedral dead opposite. Also traffic noise on cobbl...

Unfortunately due to the proximity to the cathedral, if you are in a room which is cathedral facing and have your windows open you can hear the cathedral bells. This isn't an issue for many of our guests but if you are a light sleeper, you may want to specify a garden facing room upon booking just in case! It is unfortunate you didn't get to try dinner with us - our menu is changed daily and we only use fresh, local produce in all of our dishes. Thank you for your kind and honest feedback which we have taken on board (including your detailed room tip). We look forward to welcoming you back here soon.

We have just had the most delightful overnight stay here. If you are looking for a quirky, characterful place to chill out in and enjoy beautiful surroundings, fabulous food with charming staff then do stay at The Old Deanery - you will not be disappointed!
We had a spacious room overlooking the garden with a magnificent weeping willow. The bed was huge, comfortable and the bathroom pretty with a lovely slipper bath and lovely important little touches such as the Moulton Brown toiletries and bath robes.
Dinner was really first rate with a superb menu, fresh produce and excellent service. Breakfast the following day was equally good and you really were spoilt for choice as to what to have.
Nothing was too much trouble and you felt completely welcome and relaxed from the minute you arrived. We shall definitely be returning!

It's great to hear you enjoyed another relaxing stay with us here at The Old Deanery. I will pass on all your compliments to the chefs at both breakfast and dinner, and of course Brett for providing you with our outstanding personal service, which is standard for all our guests. Room 5 is a magnificent room and gives you a true sense of the grand scale of the cathedral we are so lucky to be in proximity to, it really is a joy to stay in and I'm glad you had such a good nights sleep! We look forward to welcoming you back here soon.
