“New Year's Eve”
Reviewed 3 January 2014

A group of seven of us booked this hotel for New Year's Eve, and New Years night. We were very impressed. The rooms are comfortable, the beds are comfy too. The staff at the unicorn are lovely very attentive and pleasant. We ate most of our meals in the hotel, it's tasty and cheap, as was the drinks. The atmosphere is great a place where you enjoy spending time. We will definitely return to this clean and friendly pub/hotel. Everyone from the manager, bar staff, reception and cleaners can give each other a pat on the back. It was great.

Room Tip: We stayed at the back of the hotel, the front faces onto the square our friends said it was a bit no...

I was uncertain as to how the stay would pan out being New Year's Eve in a Wetherspoon pub, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The rooms are spacious, spotless and modern - bathroom a bit on the chilly side but OK if the door left open to the room. The noise didn't bother us but we were on the thrid floor which was a distinct disadvantage as there isn't a lift! Quite pricy but for NYE what can you expect!

Room Tip: The rooms on the third floor are fine if you are fit and healthy and don't mind climbing six fli...

Booked this for a weekend away with my Fiancee, wasnt sure about the whole "Weatherspoons" idea, you know cheap beer pub, maybe attracting the wrong crowd for a couples weekend
pleasantly suprised by the entire experience!
Its a very professional set up
Firstly everything is spotless including the rooms
The staff are excellent throughout
Value is second to none
Location - Situated in the market square it is central to everything
We werent disturbed by any noise, and had a great value meal on the Sunday night
Parking is hit and miss as there are only half a dozen free spaces (To get to the free spaces head through the long stay car park at the rear of Sainsburys and keep to the left)
The spaces are directly behind the Unicorn
Rooms are hot enough not to need the heating on (the timer clicking will disturb some people)
Power shower in the bathroom is a great wakey up
Good WI FI throughout
Absolutley cant fault it

My partner and I booked Xmas day lunch at the Unicorn and were very impressed.

When we booked we were told the table was ours as long as we wanted it. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was lovely, we couldnt fault it.We both enjoyed pate as a starter and the main course of turkey etc was delicious and very, very filling. We asked to have a break before the sweet and our server was terrific and just said 'let us know when you are ready'. The atmosphere in the Unicorn was very relaxed and we had such a great time that we have already decided that we are returning next year. Our whole experience really made our day and for this we would like to say a very big thank you to everyone at the Unicorn and we look forward to next Xmas. A great team made a great day. THANKYOU!!!

Stayed for one night,We were on the 3rd floor,Glad as its above a pub so no noise,The room was very clean and modern to a high standard,. The breakfast in the morning was huge,But it was not included in the room rate x 2 for under £10.00,so a total steal. The staff are very friendly and helpful, would recommend.

Stayed here 13th to 15th December and we werevery impressed. The bar area is very well maintained and presented. The usual good selections of beers and the food was very good too. I found all the staff to be polite and a credit to the place. The room we were allocatedwas spotlessly clean and spacious with a nice view of the Cathedral. The hotel and the city are well worth a visit

Room Tip: Room 306 !!

Single glazed rear room made disturbed sleep.Complained to desk staff gent - "yes we know it's noisey, we're going to double glaze", but no appology or offer of recompense. Dissapointing as room was nice!
