“Excellent food and service”
Reviewed 8 August 2013 via mobile

We came for evening meal while staying in the area. Food was gorgeous and the waitress/ barmaid Tracy was brilliant, the best service we received on our holiday. The village the pub is in is also lovely making it a worthwhile place to drive to.

I have very fond childhood memories of the Tuckers Arms and Dalwood, I spent many happy hours there with my father and my fathers family. I always remember the pub as a warm inviting place where everyone was friendly and welcoming.
I recently returned to Devon with my partner to inter my fathers ashes in Dalwood churchyard and had the great pleasure of spending a night at the Tuckers which (happily) hasn't changed at all. It was as I remembered.
The rooms at the pub were lovely, a little on the small side but this is expected if staying in an old pub. The décor was lovely and there was everything that I needed in the room including tea making facilities.
Tracey laid on a buffet for us which was wonderful, copious and enjoyed by all, amazing as there was also a birthday party being catered for at the same time!
Unfortunately, there was a slight mix up with my booking but Tracey went out of her way to make sure that we were not inconvenienced and would not accept payment for our nights stay, what kindness, where else would you be treated so well?
We ate at the pub and the meals were wonderful, my partner said that he had not eaten a nicer steak anywhere. Portions were large and all meals were professionally presented.
Breakfast was wonderful and freshly cooked.
I want to commend Tracey, Craig and Bev for retaining all of the original features at the Tuckers, it is a little piece of history nestled in the most beautiful part of Devon which shouldn't be missed.
We will definitely be back as soon as we possibly can, thank you all for making our trip such a wonderful experience.

Called in for an evening meal with my family, we did not pre book but the staff were very friendly and accommodated us, judging by the diners turning up later I think it would be wise to pre book.
The pub is very old has lots of small rooms all decorated showing the pubs history. The menu was all very tempting with a nice variety of meals using fresh local produce. It is reasonably priced and the portions were excellent. There is a good selection of local beers, ciders and wines but limited soft drinks for children. The staff are very friendly and helpful explaining the specials board and what is recommended . I would love to return and try several different meals form the menu. This place is well worth the trip into Dalwood village.

If you are looking for the real Devonshire life style with all of its village impressions etc this is where you should be spending your next visit. Excellent surroundings, food is value for money and the cosiness of the bar is “just the way it should be” :o)
The room was not fantastic, but provided all the necessities being comfortable bed, shower (a bit small), TV (limited numbers of channels – but come on, if you are enjoying a weekend in the countryside who needs the TV?), staff were extremely friendly and helpful and last but not least you really feel welcomed here. The price for the room is a bit toppish (£70 dbl) although including a full cooked English breakfast – good value for money…
This is the sort of place and experience that you thrive to enjoy repeatedly – and hopefully we will be able to visit Tuckers Arms again.

We ate here on two consecutive nights as we enjoyed it so much. On the second night, a Sunday, there was a problem as I don't eat meat and the specials were meat based as is the menu. However, on confiding in the waitress that I was struggling to find a main course she immediately said that she would ask the chef if he had any fish available. He obliged by providing a choice of three dishes. This shows an attitude which puts the customer first. We were generally impressed with the service anyway, even without this courtesy.

A couple of people had recommended the Tuckers Arms to us recently so we thought we should check it out - GOOD decision.

It's not the sort of place you just pass on the way somewhere but it IS the sort of place that's worth taking the effort to find.

Dalwood is a pretty little village and it's easy to imagine that this is a great "local" to have. We visited on a Wednesday lunchtime and the service and food were both very good - decent portions of freshly-prepared, hot, tasty food. It was a bit quiet at first but got busier and we're told it's quite lively in the evening.

All in all, a really good lunch and a pub that's very easy to warmly recommend - we will definitely be back!

A trip to Dalwood and the Tuckers Arms should be on everyones list when visiting East Devon. The pub itself is a very interesting 12th century building, the food served is excellent - very tasty, plenty of it and reasonably priced. The staff are friendly and efficient. We will be back very soon!
