your own little cabana overlooking a meadow so old it's mentioned in the doomsday book -for 35 quid!! Off street parking is a blessing.

The pub truly attracts all walks of life (in a good way) and feels very much like a local. Better than average music (no charge) on the weekends. The high street with lots of good dining options (partic. Indian) is two minutes walk away.

The hosts, Charlie and Michaela are sanguine, chatty, and wise.

Best stay in town and at a giveaway price.

Ok, so I wasn't expecting much from a town pub, they don't do evening meals during the week however Charlie and Michaela can suggest some good eateries. Room 1 was lovely, well appointed with its own veranda overlooking the meadows with afternoon sun. An extra welcome from Alpheba, Michaela's ridgeback (all mouth and no trousers). As rooms go this was good you just got to hunt out the food. And as for the welcome you just have to go with the flow after all it's a locals pub with a side line they do very well.

Room Tip: Ask for Room 1 it's brill

We booked 2 rooms to attend an anniversary celebration, the rooms were dusty the decor was poor and the shower next to useless, the bedding had stains on it and the beds were lumpy! The pub that is linked to the accommodation was a bit rough and the bar service was terrible, certainly not welcoming to strangers as the bar staff seem more intent to chatting with the locals than serving guests.

We were in room 4, which had two twin beds, and was disabled friendly, not that we needed that aspect of the room.

Beds were quite comfortable but bedding a little rough. Plugs were situated behind the headboard of one of the beds, so we had to move that to plug in chargers etc.

TV worked well, with freeview, bathroom was nicely stocked with showergel etc (although not big enough towels), and there was a generous tea tray containing coffee, tea, sugar, mugs, cups and milk.

Place was clean, initially cold but the radiator worked well and heated the place up nicely. The bathroom remained quite chilly though (we were there on a very cold March weekend when it snowed mind) so we suggest you bring slippers.

Once the live music started at the pub, it was a bit noisy, but not unreasonably so. Wifi tended to work well, only dropping out occasionally.

Close to town and good value.
