Had a minor problem with the room at the start but this was dealt with in a very professional manner by the staff - after that it was all plain sailing. An excellent hotel, comfortable room and great location. The jewel in the crown was the standard of the food in the restaurant. Will definitely stay again

A fantastic groupon deal bought for me as a birthday present. Had no idea what to expect.
Beautiful location over looking a gorgeous meadow and river. Great roof top terrace for champagne afternoon tea. Large spacious room as we upgraded to an executive double which had great views. Fantastic food and tentative staff in the restaurant. Overall a lovely hotel for a romantic break.
I would definitely request a room in the main building though. Would have been disappointed if in the annexe.

Room Tip: Pay a small upgrade to secure a room with a view in the main hotel

This was a last minute booking for a Friday night stay before starting two days of walking through Suffolk and Essex. We had relatively low expectations and were blown away. Lovely location, great beers and pub food, a very comfy sleep and a very tasty breakfast. Perfect.

Room Tip: Our room faced onto the river so very quiet. We were woken up by a family of ducks, very cute!

Overall this was a nice hotel in a lovely location with great surroundings.

Our room was fine if nothing special. It was bank holiday weekend and the property was busy with an additional coach party the night we stayed. This put pressure on the dining room and we had to dine in the bar. Not a big issue, but had we been warned upon check in we would either have booked a table or eaten elsewhere.

Staff varied from excellent to poor. For example the first girl who we saw at dinner time kept referring to us as "walk ins", but we are surely "residents", she said there wouldn't be a table for us! The next guy was great, he actually found us a table and looked after us, so we tipped him directly. Breakfast was the same, the formal dining area was full so again we ate in the bar. (Itself a nice location.) We had to ask different staff for butter etc. and it was all just a tad chaotic. In the end we mainly fended for ourselves!

Overall the food was very nice. The brekkie sausages a highlight. At the evening meal there was a small local "beer festival" on in the bar, the beers were lovely, but again some staff seemed unsure how to serve them.

My review is entitled "grist to the mill" to reflect other comments about staff. The same story remains, some are excellent, personable and helpful whereas others hung around near our table discussing their own social events.

On a bingo scale - Location = Full house everything else is a little hit and miss. We would go back though.

Room Tip: Book early and get a Mill Race/Meadow view. Room 506 looks over nearby Walnuttree hospital.

Attended our friends 60 th birthday party at the Mill. Food was excellent. Staff very helpful. Room was very well appointed and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent and sets you up for the day. The view from the bar area is stunning over Constable country. Well worth a visit.

The best thing about this hotel was the service - the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were good. Views across the fields to the meandering cows was fabulous. Lovely sunny deck outside for sundowners too... The only drawback was the room was super hot - even with all the windows open it was sweltering. But this was not a major issue - as the weather was great for the wedding I was attending... :)

Room Tip: The executive rooms have a fabulous view and are a decent size...worth the extra if you want to trea...

Popped in for a drink on Saturday afternoon. Fancied a leisurely bottle of red. The wine list wasn't extensive and the cheapest wine was quite expensive and not all that good. However, the views from the bar are beautiful and it was great to watch the cattle canter into the pond and then across the meadow sending the dog walkers scattering in all directions! The table was sticky and would have been much nicer if it had been wiped. I would return for more of the same, especially if the wine was a little better.
