“Fantastic value for money. Exceeded expectations”
Reviewed 24 June 2012

We stayed here with friends whilst visiting Newmarket for the races on 22 June We then spent the following day in Cambridge. Location was great for both We had 2 rooms both were fantastic value for money. Good facilities very clean comfy beds no complaints whatsoever. Breakfast was very good too and the landlord and his staff couldn't have been more welcoming and accommodating. A real little treasure of a place and one we will definitely be using again when on a racing weekend.

We only stayed at this property for one night but were nevertheless impressed. The accommodation is not attached to the inn and is rather more modern than the inn which is partially 16th century. The room we were in had an en-suite and was clean and pleasant.

We had a meal and drinks at the Inn (food service closed on Wednesdays) and were amazed by the generous portions and quality.

The publican believes that a pint is a pint and that the beer should reach the top of the glass - foam is not beer. Happy hour (Monday to Thursday) is 5pm to 8pm. Why is it called happy hour - should be hours.

Very comfortable room and well cooked breakfast. Location only 40 minutes from Newmarket through country lanes. Family run business and made us very welcome.

We have friends that stay in their caravan in this area often, we decided to visit them and stay over night. Very comfortable, Clean and lovely cooked breakfast.
Will definitley be booking to stay again. We did not eat in the inn this time but what we saw when collecting our key, we will be eating there next time. Well done Chris keep it just like this.

We booked 2 nights at The Cock Inn as it is local to our wedding venue and we wanted to test out some local B&Bs to recommend to family and friends whilst making further arrangements. The price for a double room was incredibly good value and included breakfast.
We arrived at the Inn before it's usual opening hours but were shown into the main bar with a warm welcome and then shown to our room straight away.
The room was very tastefully decorated, immaculately clean and very comfortable with plenty of bed covers and extra pillows. The bathroom was nicely decorated and well furnished with toilet, sink and shower cubicle. Basic toiletries were provided, as were plenty of towels (which were changed daily). The bathroom also had a large heated towel rail.
There was a medium sized walk in wardrobe with plenty of hangers as well as two bedside cabinets and a dresser, all of which allow for plenty of storage space. There were also lots of well positioned plug sockets which are great for phone charging, etc.
The room had a small TV with Freeview box and remote controls. There were easy to use heating controls on the wall.
All in all the room was spacious and very well resourced, decorated and furnished, perfect for a short break.
Parking area outside the room was very small but we didn't have a problem finding a space.
Full English breakfast is served in the pub next door and is all freshly prepared to order by Chris, the owner and served with fresh tea or cafetiere coffee. There was also fresh milk, orange juice, cereals and jams freely laid out.
The B&B is well located in Sudbury, 5 minutes walk from a convenience store. We spent one evening in The Cock Inn itself, which had a nice, relaxed and friendly atmosphere; large TV screens showing sport, plenty of seating and a small pool table. Drinks prices were very reasonable and there is a decent, varied pub menu. We happened to visit on a Tuesday, which is The Cock's Steak Night and is WELL worth a visit - 20oz rump steak or 10oz sirloin steak with homemade chips and peas for £10. The food was wonderful, one of the best steaks I have eaten!!
Chris, the landlord is very approachable and very friendly and works tirelessly to provide good quality accommodation and a great pub. He does his best to please all guests and goes out of his way whenever he can. I would definitely stay again and will be recommending The Cock Inn to all friends and family.

we booked in and found stains on a pillow which looked like either toothpaste or something more sinister , politely asked for it to be changed and went out to look around when we came back , we saw someone had been in but no clean pillow case, we called and was told to leave and that he had taken a customer in our room with our personal things in to look at it , some moments later the manager came over and was extremely rude and in fact scary,I spent 20 mins calming him down as if he was one of my patients. all in all a horrid place due to this , if your desperate for a bed and noise never disturbs you its a ok place but NEVER COMPLAIN . manager just can not cope . and locked us out from the pub we had to put keys through the letter box.

Room Tip: go somewhere else not worth the risk
