Description: This traditional Suffolk pub is situated on the edge of Constable Country on a minor road in the small village of Edwardstone, Suffolk. We have featured in the 'Good Beer Guide' for getting on for 20 years, and also appear in the 'Good Pub Guide'. A winner of CAMRA's 'Pub of the Month', Silver Awarded for 'Green Tourism' for our Self Catering chalets, and well known for having the world's most eco-friendly micro-brewery on-site. The White Horse is also a haunt of real ale enthusiasts, walkers, cyclists, campers and those who enjoy seriously good food in a wonderful rustic environment.

Visited with friends and family on a very busy Saturday night. A friendly welcome was quickly followed by some wonderful beers. We ate in a barn annexe which was nice and warm on a wet night with a roaring woodburner. Menu was great too with focus on local meats including a Red Poll burger (local Suffolk beef). Starters were slow to arrive but we were warned the kitchen was busy. Starters included whitebait, smoked duck and bacon salad and then following some good, reasonably priced Merlot I had the burger. Pheasant on a bed of mash and Rib Eye of Beef looked excellent too. Portions were generous and overall quality of food quality was excellent. After this we didn't need dessert but someone started playing the piano and added to the great atmosphere so we stayed and had more drinks before rolling home! A great night that got the thumbs up from everyone.

We have been going to this local (to us) pub for over 10 years. We have seen it being sympathetically extended and provided with its own micro brewery. The great atmosphere, friendly service and the best ales in the area have always been a constant factor in this pub. However the quality of the food has seen its ups and downs.

We have been twice now since the new chef Jammin arrived and we have to say the food is really delicious and well presented. Last Saturday we settled ourselves at our "usual" table by the wood burning stove and enjoyed a couple of courses each of the Christmas menu, washed down with the wonderful home brewed Gdansk ale, We chose the variety of warm rolls with olives and olive oil/balsamic vinegar and a pint of prawns as a starter. Brian had a wonderful mushroom and stilton tart, which was the best we ever tasted in a restaurant. My pheasant on a bed of celeriac mash and parsnip crisps was absolutely cooked to perfection. I liked the fact that the sauce came separate (and was hot!) so I could add it to my choice. These two lovely courses were only £14 p.p. which is really good value for the quality of the food. For another £3 we could have had desert, but we did not have any room left for that alas.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this establishment to anyone who values a good country pub with great beer, well cooked food and a friendly welcome!

Called in early on Thursday lunchtime on a last minute whim. Excellent "home brewed" beers and an interesting menu. Build a burger option much appreciated. Venison burger cooked to perfection as was the pork belly with fennel in cider. This was good food coked to order, not mass produced "fast food" so the 30 minutes or so wait was not an issue. In fact it gave us time to savour the beer.
Our visitor from Kent loved the whole country pub experience and I'm sure we'll return.

Good country pub with brewery attached. Good range of beers and ciders. Dropped by for Sunday lunch and everything was cooked to perfection. The pear poached in orange perry dessert is a must! If I had any criticism it's just a tiny teensy one....the vegetables although cooked well were just carrots and broccoli. I would have liked to see something a little more interesting but this certainly didn't detract from the overall experience. The owners are obviously working very hard to ensure good standards. Keep up the good work. We will return!
