“Scrummy food!!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 August 2012

This was the first visit to Thompson's mainly based on the great reviews on trip advisor. Lovely little menu, the risotto with broad beans, and chorizo was extremely tasty to start, for main the chicken and bubble and squeak was delicious and while there was a small amount of veg within that, some vegetable's would have gone lovely with the meal even if that was a option to pay extra. Desert was absolutely delicious. Service was different to what was expected, possibly due to the bar area being so busy? All in all a brilliant chef!

“Gentlemens Lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2012

The Sudbury luncheon club returned (yet again) to Thompsons. we alternate between Thompsons and the Mill Hotel. Both excellent and know how to cater for a 16 man luncheon club. However, this visit surpassed all we had before. A superb selection of seafood to start, with Mersea oysters, smoked salmon etc. All fresh and plentiful. Then the best fillet steaks in town all cooked to perfection. Simple puddings and a cheeseboard only bettered by Lavenham's Great House. The best of Clarets and Burgundies. Great service and atmosphere and in Garry the chef a gem! David, Fran and co. coped with 16 big drinking and trenchermen superbly. We'll be back in October and David, you finally get those 5 stars! Thanks from us all.

“Birthday lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2012

This was a treat for my birthday and truly lived up to my hopes and expectations. Small menu, but even that was difficult to choose from as they all sounded so delicious. We really enjoyed our light mains so that we could have room for dessert, a very good decision as the lemon posset and crumble were just enough to finish off on a sweet note. Charming service and incredible value for money. We are locals and will make it more than a yearly treat.

“Consistency is key to run a great bistro”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2012 via mobile

From experience when you find a jewel in the crown of great bistro dining, you always wait for the point where the next meal is not quite as good as you remember, however I think that Thompsons has broken this mould by continuing to over deliver expectations. Returned on Saturday night and was really fortunate to be able to squeeze a table for two in a busy dining room.. Service remained exceptional with both Trish and new staff member becks delivering a very attentive and high standard of customer service.. With it being busy was not sure whether our meal would suffer but I can report I think the chef has gone into overdrive with the most wonderful food presented to a standard I would expect in a fine dining establishment... Added to this once we had finished eating we were welcomed into the bar area and stayed on much later than expected.
For anyone looking for great food, atmosphere and a very well run family business then you must try here at least once, trust me you will be back for more..
