Nice setting next to the river meadows in the old Mill building. We had afternoon drinks for 6 people and cake. Good selection of drinks and cakes and bar ordering service but table service wasn't great. Waitresses aprons were filthy and they were very dis-interested which was a shame. Will visit again to try the restaurant and hope the service is better.

WE stayed for one night on a travel zoo deal. That included afternoon tea, evening meal, overnight and breakfast. This proved to be value for money. A quaint hotel that overlooks a river and common land. They placed us in room overlooking the river (it seems most do) then tried to charge an extra £10 the next morning over the pre paid amount. They took it off when challenged but we didn,t like the feeling of sneaky action!
The room was clean, fresh and had all that was expected in a modern hotel. Plenty car parking and a good position to walk the common or visit the town area on foot. User friendly town.
The meal was off good quality and well presented. Can,t speak of value as we had inclusive deal. Overall our deal was very good value Not so sure if the rack rate hit you !.

The Mill is a great place to sit and have a drink, watching the world go by. We had a work dinner here and I found the food good, but it's the view of the meadows on sunny days which I think is the best feature and makes it the best spot in Sudbury. If you're looking for a dog walk and drink after I'd really recommend it.

Recently once again taken over this time by the Legacy Group the Mill Hotel is a beautiful old fashioned hotel in a previledged location overlooking the river Stour pond and the water meadows.
Lovely old surroundings and great potential.
Food is generally good, but it can be just not so good. Again service can be good if the staff member knows the place and is well trained . or not, if it is once again if you get a new person who has to be trained at the same time as service goes on.

With the new management, we expected more of Easter Sunday.
We had guests with us and were surprised that the restaurant was not dressed up for a special lunch, no table cloth. no flowers, nothing reminding dinners or guests of Easter.

There seemed to be an afternoon tea being served in the dinning room at the same time as lunches were served!

Nobody seemed to know about our booking and it was taken in a very casual way, but prices were not that "casual."

We were directed to the bar were nobody was in attendance and no one asked about our booking. We got our drinks a bit later and noticed that sadly the open fire was once again not on. It was cold and miserable outside so we did not feel it was a welcoming hotel bar. We heard two other couples saing " they never bother with the open fire"

There was not Easter Sunday special menu, just 2 roasts of the day and the usual a la carte.
Some of the food was very good but the roasts were a bit tough and dry.

We had to pay for bread and butter separate, although we did not realise this and waited for it to come automatically. We ordered bottles of wine but no one served it. Waiters very rushed and doing their best in a sort of pub style way,

So much potential but still not there! It is all right to go for a quick lunch yourselves but if you want to make it a bit special the Mill Hotel at the moment is still not the place.

Let's hope the Legacy Group will make it right.

My husband and I booked a one night Travelzoo deal at The Mill which included room, champagne afternoon tea, bottle of prosecco, evening meal and breakfast, and booked a second night to make a weekend of it. On arrival we had a really warm welcome by Lorraine on reception who had been really friendly and helpful considering I had phoned a few times beforehand! I had forgotten to tell them that I required gluten free food. Considering this was a last minute request they went out of their way and laid on a lovely afternoon tea for me. Our room was lovely (room 36) right on the river and over looking the meadow. It was modern, clean and had everything we needed and was so very peaceful. My husband and I ate in the restaurant and again nothing was too much trouble. Such lovely friendly staff especially the Romanian head waiter Codin (sorry if I've got your name wrong). He was especially friendly, informative and attentive. He made us feel quite special and the food was amazing. We had such a lovely weekend there and would go back in a heartbeat. Well done to all at The Mill and thankyou, it really was one of the best short breaks we've been on.
