An excellent, small, boutique style hotel with staff who do nothing but try to improve your experience in the friendliest manner possible every time you pose a question. The suites are very comfortable and well serviced and the whole experience is to be highly recommended. The restaurant and luncheon facilities are outstanding as is the civilised way the day starts in your suite. A great holiday in a great hotel in a wonderful setting.

Room Tip: if you wish to be close to the sea, chose a low numbered suite

Arriving on the jetty from our charter boat was certainly an unusual way to arrive at this beautiful hotel. Our suite with a plunge pool was large, well decorated and fitted out, with total privacy at the plunge pool but also a verandah at the front with views of the gardens and the bay. Bash bar and restaurant on the beach never failed to delight us with a delicious, well prepared selection of tapas and chef Mark was ever the congenial host. The grilled lobster tail was delicious too! The staff here and in the Rhodes restaurant really helped to make our stay special, always smiling and friendly and nothing was ever too much trouble. The food at Rhodes was great too, and as we were on half board we appreciated the choice of daily specials. We liked the evening cocktail and canapés brought to our verandah each evening at sunset. The only downside for us was the early morning noise in the breakfast kitchen, which was very close to our bedroom.

Dear PubLover7,

What an exciting and unique way to arrive at the Calabash!

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. Your kind words are very heartwarming and boost staff morale no end! The title of your review is exactly what we aim to be, a peaceful haven where our guests feel immediately relaxed.

Your remarks on our staff are very true and well deserved. They are our best asset, and their wonderful smiles and personalities show how wonderful it is be in Grenada.

I'd like to thank you for bringing the fact that our maids can sometimes be a little noisy in the mornings to attention. We met with the housekeeping department yesterday and addressed the issue, which will hopefully alleviate the issue. We'll be following it up with monthly meetings just to make sure that everyone is mindful of their surroundings, which is very important creating a tranquil atmosphere.

Thank you so much once again.

Best wishes,

Adele

It is difficult to start a review when there are so many good things that you can say. We booked this for a special treat to mark a special birthday and we were not disappointed. Everything about the hotel and its location were near perfect and we could feel the sense of tranquility and relaxation as soon as we arrived. The no fuss reception and accompanying us to our villa to explain everything about the place just set the standard. Our villa was a splash pool one and was just what we expected and provided us with everything that we needed. It was spacious, very well equipped with two large rooms and a similar sized bathroom - being very picky, we would have preferred a separate shower cubicle but the jacuzzi bath more than made up for it.

The staff were excellent and really tried so hard to please and make the holiday memorable for us. That included our maids who prepared our breakfasts for us on our verandah and were so attentive without being over-powering; the staff at the beach bar and restaurant; the reception staff who were always helpful; and particularly the staff at the main restaurant.

The grounds were beautifully kept and added to the overall ambience of the location and the hotel. The beach and adjoining grassed areas were just first class and enabled us to relax on the plentiful sun beds. There was the right amount of naturally shaded areas provided by the mature trees on and near the beach and the bay itself provided an excellent back drop.

The food was out of this world and indeed we were spoilt for choice. The tapas menu at Mark's beach restaurant was extensive and inventive and provided an excellent lunch well complemented by the other dishes on the menu. The daily specials were just that. The main restaurant was something else. An excellent menu with choices to be made from the Gary Rhodes part of the menu or the dishes provided by Dexter and his team in the kitchens. Wonderful food, excellently presented and always served with a smile. And if that was not enough, you can always enjoy high tea in the afternoon.

The main deciding factor about any hotel is whether you would go back there given the experience you have had. Without a doubt would be my conclusion to that question. This hotel is a peaceful haven in a beautiful location with a genuine ethos of providing high quality service in a friendly and unobtrusive way. We felt relaxed and chilled out within 24 hours of arriving and that is a testament in itself. We look forward to our next visit there.

Room Tip: Only choose a pool suite if you intend to use the splash pool. Some of the other suites are just as nice and roomy.

Dear John T,

Thank you for your detailed and wonderfully written review of Calabash.

We are so pleased that you had a wonderful time and we are delighted by your glowing report. Our aim at the Calabash is to deliver five star service and luxury within a relaxed and intimate environment and your feedback lets us know that we are headed in the right direction.

I'm glad you mentioned having a separate bath and shower in our Pool Suites, as this is exactly what we are planning to work on during our annual closure in August and September. We think it is very important to constantly upgrade our suites and facilities, so your suggestion has been well noted.

Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you back to our peaceful haven in the sun!

Best wishes,

Adele

There are lots of fantastic hotels in this world with golden sands, sun kissed sea and wonderful food. The Calabash is better than that! Yes, the sitution is wonderful, set away from the mass of St Georges hotels in a quiet, yacht filled bay. The rooms are set in a horseshoe around a vast expanse of gardens, so all you see from your balcony is garden and sea. A wonderful way to start the day with breakfast brought to your room. Dinners in the Gary Rhodes Restaurant were fantastic, served by the friendliest waiters/waitresses you could imagine. Lunches in the beachside bar were judged perfectly. Congratulations to both sets of chefs. But what sets it apart from the rest of the best is that each of us was made to feel like a special family guest. The Garbutt family, who own the hotels and are totally "hands on", make a point of getting to know every guest by name and ensuring that they are happy. Zack, the manager, could not have done more to make us feel at home. We loved every minute of our stay and have no hesitation in awarding 5 stars! No wonder so many people we met were returning guests.

Room Tip: We had an upper level junior suite and I think that was better than being on ground level.

There is absolutely nothing to complain about, about this hotel, no matter how hard you looked. We tried to visit the Caribbean every February and tried to stay in similar hotels to this, small, very high-class, few children. So far this is the best. The staff could not do enough for you, the food was fantastic, we had great weather, or able to use the sailing and diving facilities, perfect! All things being equal we shall go back again next year (we have never been to the same place twice before)

Room Tip: We had a junior suite, probably the smallest suite in the hotel but had the best location.(
