“Fabuloso!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 September 2013

Just got back to our hotel in carcassone and we spent the entire car journey talking about the incredible food, service and atmosphere of domaine Michaud.
Beautiful setting, lovely family run business and incredible views. The food was just incredible - but also comforting and warm (no overly fancy stuff) cooked to perfection. We sat next to a French couple who said it was the best confit du canard they had eaten. I think that says it all!
A mouse bouche - a warm creamed carrot pot was a delight, followed by the rich starter of pesto mousse with courgette goat's cheese and sundries tomatoes. The confit du canard was rich and luxurious with a particularly wonderful sauce made from local port wine. Dessert, a lemon meringue was the best meringue I've ever had, warm marshmallows lemony flavours. Wonderful.

What an incredible family who run this wonderful place. Go. Eat. Look at the view. Enjoy.

“The best ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 September 2013

A wonderful dining experience - wonderful views from the terrace of Carcassonne Cite and the Pyrenees. Then we went into what can only be described as a beautiful dining area and lounge.
We had been asked when we booked if we did not like any types of food and if we had any allergies - this then enabled the chef to buy appropriate fresh items for a set menu for all the guests - so making the meal a surprise. There were a total of 18 guests - many appeared to be residents in the Chambre D'Hote run by the Domain.
Excellent choice of locally produced wine from Domain Cointes close by - also in Roullens - http://www.chateaudecointes.com/ (we chose the white grenache which was an ideal acompaniment for the turkey main course).
After the meal we spoke with the chef who came to speak to all the guests.

A fantastic evening - one we will remember - especially as it was given as a gift for my 60th birthday by our son Jonny and his girlfriend Sarah who beat us by a couple of weeks to finding this place to eat.

Highly recommended!

“This is a must!”

Having found this little slice of heaven in Roullens via Trip Advisor we booked a table to celebrate our wedding anniversary whilst holidaying near Carcassonne and from the moment I first spoke with the Jolanda through until our departure at the end of the evening we experienced nothing but the best in service, hospitality and attention to detail.

When booking we were offered dining options and opted for their surprise menu at which point they take the time to ask if you have any food preferences or specifics you wish to avoid. Upon arrival we rang the bell at their beautiful property to be warmly greeted by Jolanda and her son. Walking through to the gardens we were allowed free reign to choose where to sit for a pre-dinner drink and, with views over Carcassonne and the Pyrenees, we were spoilt from the off.

Once sat at the beautifully laid table the food was brought to us and how wonderful it all was. Being the surprise menu Jolanda gave us a brief description of our dishes as they were served to us. The first course was a sweet potato salad ball which contained such wonderful delicate flavours and a hint of thyme. We knew from the start we were on to something special. The fennel velouté was simply divine, followed by a main course of Provençal chicken stew with couscous. Desert followed by coffee and the entire meal complimented with a bottle of the local red left us with one the most memorable ways to spend our wedding anniversary evening. At €83 in total this was not just incredible value but combined with the location, food, hospitality and service it was perfect.

If you are anywhere near the area do not hesitate to book this, I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

“Forget dining in la cite!”

Wow what a fantastic experience we had at this wonderful restaurant last night. We stumbled across this hotel/restaurant on trip advisor and after reading the wonderful reviews we just had to try it for ourselves and we are so glad we did.
From the fantastic reception with the lovely daughter offering us local blanquette De la moux to the unforgettable view from our table the whole night was fantastic.
The daughter recommended we try the local red wine with our meal as the meat served was pork and we are glad we took her suggestion it was the nicest red wine we have ever tasted!
We enjoyed a small amuse bouche before the starter which was probably the tastiest salad we have ever eaten with goats cheese, pesto and courgette.
Then followed pork cooked to perfection served with a gorgeous mustard sauce and a risotto - words can't even explain the flavours we experienced!
Then came dessert, well as two chocolate lovers we certainly weren't disappointed we had a rich dark chocolate mousse served with a white chocolate coconut mousse and homemade biscuit, what an amazing end to an unforgettable meal.
We should also mention the fantastic idea of offering a surprise menu to guests, we thoroughly enjoyed leaving the decision in the very capable hands of the fantastic chef. We met the mother and the son (chef and Sue chef) after the meal where they visited each table and shook hands with every guest which was a wonderful addition to the evening. We could go on about this unbelievable restaurant all day but just go and try it for yourselves you will definitely not be disappointed!

“What a view and what a meal......very jealous of the proprietors of this beautiful property”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2013

We were visiting Carcassone and the area around it and were stuck for a place to eat, so we went to trip advisor for some help.
We saw this place and went to the website and it looked reasonably priced.
We telephoned and booked as the website instructed and it turns out that the food is bought daily for those who are booked in so all prepared fresh on site.
The place was about 10 minutes south of the city and a little hard to find, but when we arrived, we thought we had died and gone to heaven. This was the most beautiful setting we had ever eaten in. At the top of a hill overlooking miles of the French countryside. They have horses and dogs too, so if you are into that sort of thing this is a great place. We had a drink of the local sparkling wine to start in the garden overlooking the hills, then on to the terraces to eat a fantastic meal prepared by the proprietress and served by her lovely and very hard working daughter. Lovely people who left the rat race to do their own thing from holland a few years ago.
The hand prepared food was as good as we have eaten at any Michelin restaurant the desert was especially good with a home made coconut mouse.
We had 4 courses and wine from a no choice set menu, but she had catered for my wife's aversion to red meat. And when the bill came I was rather dreading it as the food had been so good. However, I was very pleasantly surprised as we had had a very poor meal for a similar price the night before in Carcassone. It was fantastic value for money, so much so that we fealt rather guilty and left a larger tip than we would have usually!
We had befriended a Dutch couple at our b&b and they were at a loose end for dinner the next day, so we all went back to the same place again and had another marvellous meal, this time inside as alas it was raining, but again in a beautiful room with lovely views.
This morning at breakfast, they too recommended the restaurant to some other Dutch people at the b&b and they are going tonight.....!!!
There is no better recommendation than word of mouth, so if you are in the area, visit this place.... You will not be disappointed!
My one criticism is that it is a little hard to find. They need more signs!
Look for mount Clare when you get to the village and get directions when you call to reserve!
Don't miss out on this gem if you are a foody!
