“Train noise and no sleep!”
Reviewed 28 March 2014

If you love train noise this is the hotel for you. Lovely room, spotless, spacious, great food, would never stay there again as I got no sleep with trains rumbling under my window all night long, it was like a earthquake rumbling and the bottles in the mini bar rattled!! Such a shame as the hotel itself and the staff were really nice.

Room Tip: Ask for a room well away from the railway line, mine was directly over it.

We have just returned from a long weekend in Sydney. I travelled with my husband and two adult daughters. When in Sydney we usually stay with friends, so it was our first time as a family in an hotel there.
The Harbourview was well chosen by my husband. Because we are a nuclear of family of four, they allowed us to stay in a family room. 2 nights with full buffet breakfast for 4 adults was included in the price of $500. Very good value when adding airfares and theatre tickets.
My husband was a little disappointed that our room did not look across to the Opera House, Rocks and Walsh Bay, but we did have a spectacular view east to Kirribilli and Mosman.
The beds were very soft and the room clean. At the end of the hall we had no corridor or lift noise.
The hotel is directly above North Sydney station and you can feel and hear the trains below, but there is no hectic traffic, nightclub or hooligan noise.
We just went down below to the station to get across to the city or enjoyed the scenic walk down hill to Milson's Point Ferry Stop. ( By a 24 hour or weekly ticket) It is easy to travel straight to and from the airport via train. We would happily stay there again.

We enjoyed a quiet Sunday morning in a Blues Point Café.

Room Tip: All rooms have a view of the Harbour, it depends if you want a city or eastern view.

Stayed 4 nights. 13th floor, views are astounding. Trains are noticeable and start early but you gotta get up? We loved it. The room was spacious, clean, everything worked. The a/c actually responded to our temp request. The shower was a rain-type and very effective, the window to the bedroom was different. Staff were excellent. The bar was pleasant. Skipped the restaurant in favour of local options. North Syd is much quieter than the CBD and very office-orientated; so evening restaurants are limited but some good within walking distance. Parking worked well. Definitely would return. I do object though to the chargeable wifi. This is a utility that should be provided. Also the CC fee is just another annoyance.

Room Tip: Higher floor for view and noise avoidance. West wing preferable.

It's only too often that things turn out to be not quite what they seem, but that certainly isn't the case here. With breathtaking views of Sydney Harbour and the bridge this really is an ideal stopover location.
The breakfasts are well presented and I can certainly vouch for the in room catering. Just thing thing after a trip or long day at the office.
The staff have always been most helpful and obliging.
Whilst directly above the approach to North Sydney station, you do become accustomed to the trains, but they do not run all night. I find them quite therapeutic actually?

Room Tip: Rooms above 8th are quietest from train noise. I believe there are 2 rooms per floor without a harbo...

Stayed here for a week on business. View spectacular over Luna Park towards the bridge. really interesting to have a glass partition as one of the walls between the bathroom and rest of the room, still got to see the bridge while you showered.
some great eateries within a short walk of the hotel. If you don't feel like exploring then eat in or enjoy a relaxing drink at the bar. Only downfall for me was the bed was too soft, with a view like the one I had from the eleventh floor it was easy to negate this one area. The staff were all delightful and the hotel overall gets a big tick,

Room Tip: Anything that over looks the harbour

We stayed at the hotel for two nights on our introduction to Australia. The rooms were large and perfectly well equipped. Our twin room had two double beds per room with en-suite. Don't forget to draw the blinds in your bathroom (large picture window directly into the bedroom!) Fantastic views of the Bridge, fantastic rail links and a nice walk to the ferry if you prefer to go by water. The staff were friendly and efficient and the price was really reasonable. I would stay there again.

Room Tip: All rooms have view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge

I stay here on a regular basis for work and I have never had a bad thing to say about it. The staff are very friendly and quick to help, the rooms are spotless and the view and happy hour are second to none. As it is directly above North Sydney train station, you can imagine that you will hear the trains, but it isn't as bad as you think.

Room Tip: The higher you go, the less likely you will hear the trains
