A very welcoming old country pub serving delicious food and excellent beer, in the beautiful Derbyshire Peak District. Friendly staff, dogs welcome, lovely open log fires. Unfortunately, for safety reasons, young children under 6 years old, are not allowed in the pub.

This was our lunch time venue on a full day hike through Tideswell and Monsall dales. The pub is an authentic country pub, not some "wanna-be" corporate place. The staff were very friendly, the food was excellent, and there was a good choice of locally brewed ales. If I lived in Litton, this would be my local. If you are in the area, it is worth a stop.

Second visit to the Red Lion and every bit as good as the first. We cocked the booking up but friendly staff did everything possible to accommodate 4 adults (one with a gammy leg that needs a stool) & two large boxer dogs.
Then the father in law pinched my veg by mistake. Staff overheard this and simply brought an extra portion without us asking.
Food is quality and a wide selection of all courses were available.
All the staff are polite and give clear indication that no request is too much trouble for them.
The chef likes to mingle and gauge how diners feel about the food.
Best of all is that all this is topped by leaving you a sense that this is your local (in terms of return visits, it will be methinks).
This is not a silver service, trendy bistro. However, dress comfortable, kick your shoes off & settle down for good, quality portions of well prepared & recognisable food in the company of your best friends (2 & 4 legged) & enjoy a service level that few achieve.
Please do not add wifi availability. People actually chatting to one another across the table (instead of the other side of the world) only adds to that "local" feeling that has become rare in modern country pub/restaurants.

We met a couple whilst walking along Lathkill Dale who couldn't say enough nice things about this place. We decided to seek it out and I have to say it was definitely well worth the visit.

Quick word of warning though, the pub does not allow children under six although you can take your dog!

Another great pub in the Peak District. Really welcoming atmosphere, serving great food at reasonable prices. We booked which was just as well as even on a week night it was busy.Big helping of cod and chips and a lovely fish pie with plenty of fish and prawns; so full up we had to forego the desserts, unfortunately as they looked very appetising.
Good selection of wine;we had a South African Pinotage which you don't always find in a pub,it proved to be a good choice.
Very friendly staff completed a great night.
