“Lovely place ”
Reviewed 23 April 2014 via mobile

We came here via a recommendation from a friend of ours and we were not disappointed at all. It's a small pub with a big heart and lovely food. The initial greet was lovely we were taken to our table showed the specials and left to ponder the menu. The choices are great meals vary in price from about £6 to £13 but very reasonable considering the standard. I would definitely recommend a visit by anyone who is looking for the perfect little place to have something nice to eat. We will be coming back.

“Amazing ambience and food in this unconverted, untouched public house.”
Reviewed 14 February 2014

So authentic inside it may ME feel young. You need to experience the sense of age rubbed gently for hundreds of years into the panels and furniture of this place to understand what I mean.
Three real fires... all lit and blazing... Food was great. Even though all I had was a starter, it was enough on its own and reasonably priced. (Black pudding and mushrooms in a peppercorn sauce all on thick toast. I would recommend it.)

“Disappointing food”
Reviewed 22 December 2013

Just went up to Litton for Sunday Lunch. The pheasant was overcooked, dry and alost inedible and veg was also overcooked and looked most unappealing. I did mention this to the waittress and barmaid, but they weren't at all interested. This pub does have cosy rooms, with real fires, but I would not recommend the food. My companion had the steak and kidney pie which was average at best - we paid £24 for 2 lunches, so for the quality we received, I am very disappointed. There are other better places nearby, so pass on the food at the Red Lion!

“Great Derbyshire pub”
Reviewed 14 December 2013

Great, friendly staff, good beer and pub food.
Welcome dogs, walkers and even fly fishermen in waders! Real fires in small cosy rooms.
This is what all country pubs should be like!
