“Idyllic stay over Christmas”
Reviewed 3 January 2016 for a stay in December 2015

My wife and I stayed at Candlelight Cottage over Christmas. It's in an idyllic location in the heart of a a chocolate-box Derbyshire village. The cottage was decorated for Christmas and was lovely and cosy. The only thing that could have made our stay even better would have been a sprinkling of snow!

Happy New Year and thank you for doing a review. We're so glad you had a lovely time. We were disappointed about the weather too. Litton always looks so magical in the snow. Maybe we'll be luckier next year!

“5 star all the way”
Reviewed 20 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

My wife and I stayed for a week at this beautiful cottage. Simon and Jill had ensured we had everything we needed to make the stay enjoyable. The kitchen was equipped to a very high standard, the bed was comfortable and the rooms spacious. In fact the entire cottage was perfect in every way.

We travelled around the Peak District a great deal and found the location of the cottage perfectly situated. The village is quiet and beautiful. We will definitely stay here again.

Thanks to Simon Jill and James we had a great week in the Peaks

“Fab cottage in a perfect village”
Reviewed 3 September 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Candlelight Cottage is a gem - cosy and comfortable with all mod cons - in a great setting on the village green right opposite the Red Lion pub which serves excellent food.
We were met on arrival by Simon and shown around this quirky cottage. Everything possible has been done to ensure guests have a fantastic holiday. The cottage is kept spotlessly clean and contains everything that you could possibly require. Even the local information leaflets are categorised and stored in folders so that you can find them easily.
We ate at the Red Lion 3 times during our stay. On our first evening the landlady fitted us in even though it was really busy. After that we booked for Sunday lunch and for our last evening before going home. The pub is always busy but the staff are friendly and the food is good pub grub.
The village shop, run by a village cooperative, is just along the way and stocks most things that you may need.
The area around Litton is fantastic for walking for all abilities.
Simon came over again to see us on departure to check that we had found everything we needed and enjoyed our holiday.

“A perfect haven in a delightful setting”
Reviewed 8 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We stayed at Candlelight Cottage for a week and found the cottage to perfect for our needs. The owners have thought of everything, even international power adaptors, and the cottage is extremely appointed and maintained. Delightful decor, comfy couches and lovely bed linen and towels ensured we felt very spoilt. The warmth of the aga added to the ambience, and we made good use of the courtyard, thanks to warm weather. There are plenty of walks in the beautiful surrounding area and we selected the cottage as it was close to Chatsworth Houde, the main reason for our visit. This is a lovely cottage in a delightful area, with plenty to do and see.
Thank you Jill and Simon for making our holiday so magical.

“Wonderful cottage in an ideal location”
Reviewed 17 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We came from Germany and stayed for a week together with our daughter. It was the ideal location to explore the Peak District with famous attractions like Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and nice towns like Bakewell nearby. We also enjoyed the stunning caverns near Castleton and beautiful walks. It was always a pleasure to come back to this lovely cottage, which was exceptionally well equipped, clean and comfortable. The owner’s attention to detail is visible everywhere and made us feel very welcome. The broadband wi-fi was not only appreciated by our daughter! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and intend to come back one day.

Thank you very much for writing the review. We both enjoyed meeting you and it was good for me to practise my German, although your English is amazing! When we replace the beds next time, we will certainly bear in mind that Laura Ashley bedsteads are not ideal for exceptionally tall people and we are very sorry that the bed wasn't perfect for your husband. We are pleased that you want to come back again though and hope to see you all soon. Best wishes,Jill and Simon.

“Beautiful homely cottage”
Reviewed 1 June 2015 for a stay in May 2015

We went as a family with my 10 and 12 yr old children. It was a lovely , tidy and clean cottage with every facility that we could have asked for. We had a brilliant holiday with Litton being close to many of the Derbyshire attractions. We would definitely recommend to families with similar aged children. The owners have thought of everything including handily labeled folders with various attractions such as walks/ towns / stately homes etc which I found very helpful to plan our stay.
