This was our first trip to the Maldives, and we chose Baros quite out of the blue. After we found that some friends had been there three times. We had a water villa and had no idea what to expect. I was afraid that there would be a lot of mosquitos and other horrid things, but none.at all. My husband sufferes terribly with humid conditions, but this place was right up his street. He could just go into the water at any time to cool off, or go into the A/C'd room. The room was delightful and such a different experience being over the water, not that you would know at night, as there is no noise. We don't dive, but love snorkelling and found the reef kept our interest without having to venture too far. Prices were probably a little steeper than we imagined but hey!, we were on holiday and certainly did not stint ourselves. We were there for 6 nights (should have been 7 but missed the plane from Dubai). Definatly would go back, and I would be worried about going to another island, as Baros was so perfect. Very peaceful, and a great place to recharge batteries. Only downside is the timing of flights, had to wait a long time at Male for our flight back to UK via Dubai, which was a pain. However Emirates were excellant.

We went to Baros for our honeymoon exactly a year ago - beginning of August 2008. We still can't stop thinking about the island, our water villa, excellent food and cocktails, tranquility at all times, live music in the Sails Bar, attentive stuff members (not once we felt intruded as it can sometimes happen, rather everything was done so seemlessly). Whereever we go now we always say: 'It isn't liek Baros....!' Baros is scintillating and we couldn't recommend it enough - you will be made feel so special! It was the best holiday ever and we will always be thinking of it fondly!

This is our third visit in four years and it just gets better. We love this resort. It is expensive but is just heavenly. We would recommend to anyone.

We love the water villas as they give you acess straight in to the sea and are very plush.

The food in the lighthouse is fantastic.

We have just retuned from an 8 day stay on Baros. In some ways we found ourselves in Baros by default as we switched to Baros from Full Moon because we were informed that noisy work would be taking place from 9 to 9 and we wanted a peaceful holiday. I am so glad we made the change. Baros is beautiful, the rooms are excellent, the serviice is superb. The staff are very attentive, interested in thier work, vut never intrusive.

The catering is extremely good and innovative. the Executive Chef, a larger that life Aussie Damien Barret, has a logistic nightmare as everything apaprt from local fish has to be imported from all over the world,. The standard Lime Restaurant serves a fairly standard upmarke breakfast and has a suggested table d'hote dinner, but there is a major advantage over most ofther tabled'hote menus. One can select individual dishes from the a la carte menu without fiinancial penalty. We expereiced two theme nights in the Cayenne Grill - a Madivian expereince and an Asian extravaganza. Both were excellent, but with the drawback that there was too much choice to sample everything that was on offer. The HB option includes the theme nights, but if on RB rates they are $85 per person. One assumes that the Lime menu would be the same if booking on RB rates. It is therefore a little disappointing that one is only given a $45 discount to dine in the Cayenne Grill or Lighthouse restaurant if parteking of the HB option. However, we found that the Lime provided ample choice. As my wife will only ever have a half glass of wine the Degustation Menu of 7 coursees with 7 different wines was not an economic option.

We had booked a de Luxe villa which is said to be 85 sq m and was located all of 25 steps from te sea. An enclosed walled private garden with an open air shower was very pleasant and thrilled my wife despite here aprehension when she first heard about it. The bedroom come lounge r tended to be fairly dark, I suppose one could say a romantic light level, a 7ft bed which was very comfortable, TV,CD and DVD player, excellent quiet air con, a minibar, but with complimemtarty coffee and tea and a anple supplies of mineral water supplied dailyl A plate of fresh fruit provided daily added to a feeling of welbeing.

The house reef about 30 metres from the high water level provided ample opportunities for snorkelling for the timid, but there was a far greater range of fish a liitl firther out behone the Wall some 50 metres from the shore.

The reception staff were very attentive, we were met by a beatiful Kkorean lady, who works under the name of Jenny, who was always anxious to help and always came to ask if she could be pf any assistance whenerve we passed the reception area. Generally she almost predicted what we would want and had arranged it before we asked. No praise is too high for her attention to detail and customer care.

Would I recomment Baros - without a doubt, but one must prepare for very high costs for drinks and additional meals. However, with a hearty brekfast and the knowledge of aforthcoming 4 courwe dinner, we often found that a single shared item from the light menu at the Sails Bar was suficient for a lunchtime snack. Prices - apint of draft Heineken $11, a bottle of wine from $50, Pizzzas aroudn $18, etc. Anyone considering Baros can see some Menu prices on the hotel's website,

We enjoyed Baros immensely and it sompares favourably with, although it is markedly different, Jalouise Plantation in St Lucia and Le Touessrik in Mautiitus.

We made our fourth trip to the Maldives in February 2009 and stayed 2 weeks in villa 214 which has a great beach area but close to all the facilities that the island has to offer.

Having previously stayed at Kanuhura, Anantara and Manafaru we were well versed in the transfer arrangements and as befits a 5 star hotel these were carried out by the Baros staff without fuss and contributed greatly to the relaxed feeling you have 20 minutes later arriving at the island.

Upon arrival the formalities are dealt with quickly while relaxing in the open reception and then you are taken to your Villa by the host and the facilities are further explained. It should be noted that motorised buggies do not exist on this island....and it is much the better for it.

The Villa's are not the largest we have stayed in or the most luxurious but are well fitted out and we immediately felt comfortable with our choice of destination. Certainly the positioning of villa 214 suited us as it was one of the villas with the largest amount of beach and with easy access to the reef for snorkeling.

The house reef is definitely the best we have seen and all manner of fish and wildlife are available to be seen in abundance. One day you can swim with turtles another with giant Puffa fish and another with the many sharks, tuna and colourful fish and fauna.

There are three restaurants and we eat in each of them and experienced a high standard of cuisine in them all. The Lime restaurant is used for both breakfast, lunch (if you need it ) and dinner and was well positioned with great views of the lagoon. The menu was comprehensive and accomodated most tastes.

The second restaurant open in the evening was the Cayenne Grill which had the advantage of a Teppanyaki table where the experienced and friendly chef cooked your order in front of you...an experience well worth doing !

The third restaurant is the acclaimed Lighthouse, fine dining in a stunning location and if you get past the first page on the menu you can find meals that are reasonably (for the Maldives) priced. Great restaurant for a celebration meal and the upstairs bar is fantastic for a sundowner drink.

We felt that the food and beverage costs were quite high on Baros in comparison to our previous trips but that most probably had more to do with the strength of the pound to the dollar than this island being significantly more expensive in reality.

All in all it was the standard of service on the island that impressed us the most. The staff are all incredibly efficient, both front and back office (the garden staff were great and provided one of our highlights by letting us taste the fresh coconut straight from the tree). We did not have a single incident of misunderstanding with any member of staff throughout our two weeks which from previous experience demonstrates how well run the resort is. Definitely a credit to all the people who have managed to keep this resort at the top of it's game for so many years. We had a great relaxing holiday in a fantastic and stunning location and could not have asked for more.
