“A terrible experience”
Reviewed 16 May 2014

Arriving late at night with kids and elderly, we chose to stay there ( though more expensive) instead of the hotels on Male, which required a speed boat ride. However, we weren't much better off. Hotels such as Traders have someone to meet u up at the airport while this hotel doesn't. You have to wait outside and spot for their shuttle yourself. Though Welcome drinks were served and staffs were nice, we did wait for a fairly long time before we could get a room as they were also busy checking in the cabin crews. Hotel lobby was warm with no airconditioning. We were given connecting rooms as requested, decor was old and basic and we accepted it but soon we found out that the airconditioning failed to cool the room down. As it was nearly 2am & we stayed for 1 night only, we did not bother to
change the room. Needless to say, we had a terrible night. Apparently, this was a mistake to think that the hotel's proximity to the airport would make my family more comfortable. Would never stay there again.

I stayed here a couple of years ago and then recently had a day "pass" whilst waiting for an evening flight having been kicked off a Blue O Two dive dive safari boat at the ridiculous time of 6:00 AM. (No trip advisor entry for Blue O Two Maldives, so I can't write a review - message me if interested).

Well you wouldn't come here as a matter of choice. The airport island is depressing and dirty and the hotel little better. All clientele seem to be simply transiting and many are flight crew. It's the only hotel on the island so you are a little stuck if you need to stay nearby.

It's very expensive, for example two small glasses of beer cost about £9.00. It would be a little better if the staff didn't round up the cost before giving change, ie $12.53 will actually cost $13 as they will not give any change less than €1.

Service is only average and food average at best.

Avoid if at all possible.

We recently had a 'day package' at this hotel and an overnight stay.

The day packages are really useful if you've got a few hours in Male between flights, but it's still not the same as having your own room.
We arrived at the Hotel around 0830 and couldn't get a drink - not even a glass of water! - until 10am!! Not ideal when it's already 30C. I really think the hotel is missing a trick here.
It's not entirely ideal having to keep popping in and out of the general luggage room or getting changed in the shower block, but it's OK.
The hotel pool is lovely. It's very spacious and in an attractive setting. The slight downside is that the sun loungers are only at one end of the pool - and there aren't that many of them. So, as the afternoon progresses and the sun moves around there is basically enough space for one bed to be in the sun! All the rest are shaded by the palm trees. Don't even think about dragging your lounger into the sun as a very officious pool attendant will swiftly tell you it's against the rules! All they have to do is put some loungers at the opposite end of the pool then everyone's happy. Alternatively, there are some loungers at the man-made 'beach' area of the hotel (but again, not many).

We found the helpfulness of the staff fairly mixed; some were lovely, some not particularly helpful/friendly. The ladies in The Spa were lovely though and we can definitely recommend a visit there (check out the special daily offers they have too).

The super deluxe room was great - very spacious and well equipped. Just a tip on the pillows though - check these out before you go to sleep as the hotel offers a variety of pillows (which is great) and we didn't realise how ultra firm our pillows were - quite uncomfortable really, which was a shame as the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom/wet room was large and again well equipped.
The rooms were not sound-proof though and there is a bit of hotel and aeroplane noise - not unbearable though.
We had dinner and breakfast in the Faru Coffee House restaurant. The service was a bit hit and miss and we were both surprised (and disappointed) that smoking is allowed in this restaurant. Food was average. Again, for one day/night it's fine.

Room Tip: Maybe ask for a room that doesn't face towards the airport.

the only hotel on this island so you have no other choice really if you want to stay close to the airport, start with the good things gym and gym staff is great, business breakfast at 4th floor is fab staff fery friendly and great food and waiters really go for extra mile so you can feel good, every sathurday there is a BBQ for 23$ and that is good...bedrooms very basic ....everything else is very expensive bottle of water 6$ ..internet in your room for a week is like 160$...and there is internet free at reception area but never works it took me an hour to open i web...shocking , if you going to an island for a day trip dont take towel from the hotel you will be told off big time and not aloud to take stupid towel out of the hotel...., anyway I had to stay there as was on business trip but its not ideal...local people come from the main island for alcoholic drinks but if you are a girl be carefull as you will be fallowed... just be carefull and if you are a girl be careful there are lots of sea plane pilots" horny creeps" and no security at the hotel so watch and be careful...enjoy and good think is every 06:30 am you can see dolphins

Room Tip: sea view the best far fro the lifts

Having been to hotels in 160 countries, this is probably the worst value for the cost. There was no shuttle ,I walked to the hotel in 90 degree heat. No room/maid service on my 2nd day. TV inop. Broken handle on TV console/desk. Rotting wood on balcony rail. Peeling paint on wood and window frames, curtains askew- and this was the deluxe room that they gave me as an upgrade due to the lack of shuttle even though I had informed them of my arrival time as they had requested. I could have been so nice as there are some positive aspects of this hotel. Excellent Breakfast Buffet, Nice pool and small beach and the water taxi to Male City. Linens and beds are of high quality, but I can not justify $709. USD for a 2 night stay.

Room Tip: Do not bother with Deluxe because it may not be deluxe

We had the misfortune of needing to wait 6 hours for check in to open and didn't want to go to the main island late at night. Just for the privilege of sitting in the non air conditioned lobby here costs $7 per hour (each). We made the mistake of begin stung $80 odd dollars each for use of facilities and dinner and luggage storage.
Showers were dirty, bar was closed, food in restaurant was awful, service even worse.
Cheap plastic statues of food and words were stuck about like a bad disney trip.
We ate but wished we had waited until the lounge at Male airport as even their snacks were a la carte compared to this drivel. It is real 1980's dated nastiness.
Avoid at all costs.

Room Tip: I don't honestly believe there are any good rooms. And prices range from £300 to £1000 a night...

If this hotel was less than $50, I might have given it 4 stars but we paid close to $300 for one night and it just wasn't worth it.

Disliked:
- The room was old and worn out. If the hotel was cheap, I wouldn't complain but for $300 a night, I'd expect a lot more, I'd even expect a bit of luxury. The air-conditioner leaked and blew cold air all over our faces every ten minutes even though we adjusted the air flow to blow downwards only.
- Baby cot (danger hazard so we didn't let our 16 month old use it, waste of US$8 we paid for booking it). Some of the side rails were missing, if our baby was younger, his head might have fit through the gap. The mattress was super lumpy. And the cot was squeaky. It would be better if the hotel did not provide a cot at all.
- Only one towel was provided in the bathroom. I know it's just a phone call to get another one but at 12am in the morning, the last thing you want to do is wait for a bath towel. If the room is booked for two adults and a child, I'd expect three towels but would be understanding if only two was provided. Just don't understand why there'd only be one.

Liked:
- Breakfast was surprisingly decent. And it felt like we had walked into another hotel when we walked into the breakfast room.
- Housekeeping were quick to bring amenities when I requested them.
- Proximity to the airport. We were deciding between Traders Hotel and this one. We only chose this airport hotel because we were arriving late at night with a baby and didn't want to catch a boat to the main island and then catch another car to the hotel.
