Dolidi Ndano Towale

Certificate of Excellence

Dolidi Ndano is a special place. It is not only beautifully located on the shores of lake Poso, the rooms are tidy, the food is well prepared, and the atmosphere is very friendly. Last but not least part of the profits of this resort go to a foundation which supports children in a marginalised position to have a home and to go to school.

We recommend to make the boat trip which the resort offers. This takes you accross the lake to visit a place where wild orchids grow. Here you make a jungle track where you can see the hornbill bird and other birds. The resort has a very experienced guide who knows a lot about plants and animals. At the other side of the lake you make two village walks, one of those includes a visit to a pretty waterfall. After a lunch on a private beach, the boat takes you to the miracle of the 'floating stone', a huge rock floating in the water, staying at the same place without being attached to the bottom.

After 1 night in the Victory/Victoria guest house we came to the Dolidi and the difference is dramatic. You can tell that the owner, Herson, really cares about the quality of his hotel and the comfort of his guests: the rooms are clean and comfortable and the whole site is beautifully laid out. Herson is polite, generous and unfailingly helpful - he took a lot of trouble to arrange our car plus driver for the next part of our trip. Plus they cooked us bat one evening at our request (which was delicious!) but this isn't compulsory :)

The view over the lake is amazing and the setting as a whole is beautiful - its an incredibly relaxing place to lounge around. The only disadvantage is that the hotel is 20 mins down a bumpy, pothole ridden track, but it's well worth the trip. Herson lent us a motorbike so we could get into town easily (albeit bumpily!).

Note that there's no swimming pool or fitness centre, but the lake is clean and the water warm so beats your average swimming pool. Plus Herson runs an orphanage next door and if you ask you can play with the kids - a few hours of volleyball and badminton with them beats any gym I've been to :)

We loved the Dolidi so much we extended our stay, and I'd definitely return if I'm ever in the area again. Top notch.

Stayed their 3 nights. The place by itself is incredibly beautiful and owner Herson makes you welcome as hell. From the long pier in front of the accommodation, you can jump into the clean fresh wather lake. The rooms itself are really luxury and comfortable. Big matress, clean sheets, luxury bathroom. We had the feeling that we stayed in a 4 star resort. The food is good but we missed a bit the indonesian taste (not that spicy).

The good thing is, next to the resort is a house for neighbourhood kids who lost their parents, or whose parents can't provide for them. All their profit flows to this sympathetic project. But even without the altruism this place is highly recommended, just because it's so comfortable.

If you head to Tentena, would def .reccommend you to stay there. If you call owner Herson, he will pick you up for free at the bus station

Owner Herson used to work as a tourist guide, and from that time he knows what western tourists like: clean and well-maintained rooms and hot showers. He provides both, plus a fantastic garden area full of trees, plants & easy chairs. There's a pier that leads into Lake Poso, which is incredibly clean and clear (as there's few other people living there).

For the 300-350.000 per night p.p. he provides all the coffee, tea, water you can drink plus three meals a day. That's a good thing, because the resort is pretty isolated, about 5 km from the town of Tentena. There's no bus or ojek going by. Herson will pick you up from & drop you in town, but it's probably a good idea to rent a motorcycle for around 80.000 a day.

One of the most appealing things is probably Herson himself: an incredibly friendly, helpful and interested host, who spends most of his earnings on a shelter he built next to the resort for neighbourhood kids who lost their parents, or whose parents can't provide for them. But even without the altruism this place is highly recommended, just because it's so comfortable.
