“Very relaxing, amazing dinner, breathtaking views.... Very quiet!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 April 2014

If you want a quiet get-away-from-it-all break, then this could be your place. Tucked away in a lovely garden right on the shore of lake Caragh with superb mountain views..... And no telly! Yes there is no television in the rooms, a communal tv room does the job! Little or no phone reception adds to the cut off feeling!! The dinner is amazing and yes the good is as good as all other reviewers said it is. The breakfast is not as superb with a B&B feel to it, but you can forgive this after you have had the lovely dinner! Yes the hospitality is great, all staff take an interest without being in your face. We were in a Room 10 and it had breathtaking views over the lake and mountain and one you could stay looking at all day. The bathroom was true old house feeling with the wooden floor and large bath. We were there for two days and had a lovely rest but a third day would have tested my husbands patience without his tv!the town of killorglin is ten minutes with Tralee and Killarney about twenty mins away, glenbeigh jus down the road and I am sure this is a Lively Spot in the summer but was eerily quiet when we passed through. Carrig House is not cheap and it's not for those looking for a wide range of activities, there is no leisure centre or spa just bright open rooms where you can sit and read a book, oh yeah no phone reception either but it does have free wifi! Overall it had the feeling that you are guests in someone's house but perhaps that's a good thing nowadays as it's so different to the anonymous hotels. So..... It's v v quiet, superb dinner, great views but bring a book!

Room Tip: Room 10 was lovely with mountain and lake views

We had a fabulous time at Carrig Country House. We were made to feel very welcome and at home with what I'd consider typical Irish hospitality. The house is very old school and our room (17) was spacious. No TVs in the rooms but they do have a TV room which has sky sports.

The setting is wonderful, right on a big lake. The lake-facing garden is small but lovely to sit in a take in the view. There didn't appear to be any easy paths for walking directly around the lake.

Dinner was excellent, breakfast not bad (the buffet is poor but the hot food to order was good).

I'd recommend Carrig Country House - highly enjoyable visit.

Room Tip: I think they all have a view of the lake.

This bed and breakfast is in a fantastic location, by a beautiful lake. And that´s all that makes it special. For 190 € per night, we never had the feeling of being in a 4 stars accommodation. Room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was almost the same you would find in any other average B&B in Ireland. I would not recommend anyone going to this place for that incredibly high price.

Stayed here for 3 nights recently. Absolutely stunning location over- looking Carrig Lake, just outside Killorglin. The bedrooms are charming and comfortable and the decor is fitting with the style of the magnificent Victorian house. Food was superb (breakfast & dinner). Excellent hospitality from the owner Frank who couldn't have been more helpful and polite. Overall it was a fabulous experience and we hope to return soon.

Hard to know where to begin to describe all the wonderful qualities of this Victorian house. First of all the setting in the Ring of Kerry, is just stunning. It overlooks Caragh Lake, which gently laps up against the rocks at the base of the house's gardens. The rooms are tranquil and most have views of the lake, through large picture windows. There are many smaller and larger common gathering areas, all of which are cozy and elegant. So you can pick to sit in the living room off the dining room, if you want to mingle with other guests or if you prefer you can find your own private sitting room. We were here for two nights and ate in the restaurant both nights. Have to say that this was amongst the best places I have eaten, anywhere! Frank and Mary, the owners, serve gourmet dishes, each of which seemed to out do the next.
If you plan to travel to this area of Ireland... this is definitely the place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for one that has a view of the lake.

My husband and I stayed here over the October bank holiday weekend. We received a lovely welcome and were shown to our beautiful room. We then enjoyed some tea and home made cake/biscuits in front of the fire while the wind howled outside. There are two sittings for dinner. We rambled downstairs quite early for the later sitting, and enjoyed a drink while we reviewed the menu. There is a good choice to suit all tastes, and we enjoyed beautiful food both nights, including wonderfully fresh fish, succulent beef and lamb and irresistable desserts. Breakfast is a similarly impressive affair with a large selection of hot food made to order. The service throughout our stay was fantastic, everyone was so friendly and helpful. I'd definitely recommend Carrig House for a relaxing weekend, with peace and quiet, away from it all.

After lots of searching for a plce to spend 2 nights on the Ring of Kerry, I came across this piece of luxury. It looked good online, had very good reviews, was private yet close to many of the tings my group wanted to see and do, on a lake, had a restaurant, etc... Everything went up several notches as soon as we arrived and checked-in. This mus be one of the ver best Counry Houses Hotels in Ireland - reminded us of similar ones we had experienced in Wales, Scotland and England's Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales!! First Class in all respects - there are many different sitting rooms and parlours both large and small and most with a cozy fireplace, a beautiful lake, a very nice garden and walk down to a lakeside dock. On may also lounge in outdoor chairs available on the lawn in front of the rooms overlooking the lake. It is full servcie any time of day the way it seems, with refreshments, and beverages of any kind all day and evening. The restaurant is top drawer as is the management and ownersship team. It was so nice and the food was SO excellent that we decided to dine here on both of our evenings and so pleased that we did. We had a wealth of area information to study along with the great guidance of the owners, who have been here a long time and KNOW what to do and HOW to do it!! We hav no hesitation giving this counry house our highest marks overall - Ireland & Northern Ireland.
