I feel the need to write this review having just spent two days at this lovely hotel and read the last review. I am shocked at what the last reviewer has written. We have just had two wonderful days in this lovely hotel. The owners were charming and very helpful in planning our stay to ensure we got the most out of our two days. We were lucky to be able to stay in room 1 , with a magnificent view over the lake. We had pre dinner drinks in our own lounge and coffee after our evening meal. The staff were lovely and very happy to bring our drinks up to our room. The gardens are well maintained with lots of lovely seating areas overlooking the lake. The dining areas are so lovely again with views over the lake. The food is excellent. I would suggest you need a car to get the best out of the area however, there are still lots of walks around the hotel and it is an ideal base just to chill out. I am looking forward to returning.

Room Tip: Room I wow !!!!

My spouse and I decided to spend this year our holidays in Ireland, a country where we have never been before. We first made a 5 day stop in Hayfield Manor located in the cify of Cork. Everything was more than perfect in this hotel and in line with international standards (Marriott, Sheraton, Hyatt, etc...). We found this accomodation on the Ireland's
Blue Book website that seems to be trustable.

We decided to carry on our trip in Ireland by discovering the region of Kerry. We picked up then this hotel because of its stunning view over the lake, from the Ireland's Blue Book website as it was supposed to be a reference in terms of accomodations. If the food and the breakfast are good (fresh and home-made products), the bedroom and more generally the indoor premises of the house are a bit rustic and not well-kept... My wife and I were very disappointed...

First, the bedroom would need a complete renovation and a deep cleaning (stains and hair on the carpet, squealing tapes when having a bath, oil needed in the door of the wardrobe, shabby paper wall, old shade light with holes, old armchairs unusable with stains, wrecked springs and material above ripped, etc...). The bed is ok but not more... Moreover, the room is not very well soundproof, so you can hear everything from the top to the ground of the house (other people using their toilets was the worst for us...). Take your ears plug with you!

Second, there is a kind of ceremonial to get your dinner: first, you sit down and you order and second, you can have your courses... We didn't like it. Weird to us... We have to recognize that at least the food was good. It was maybe one of the rare positive points of this hotel like the garden and the lake view.

Third, they seemed to us that the managers were falsely friendly and are pushing you to consume. Everything sounds fake... We are not stingy at all and are always happy to have good time but we can't bear to feel like a touristic target... The staff would need to be trained a bit as well... Not mean but not very delicate and sometimes rough...

Fourth, we are in 2014! The WIFI is working from time to time (very convenient if you need to work a bit) and there is no TV in the room... You have a common TV room place like in the 60's (not a flat screen but one of those coming from the 80's...) with ugly flowers printed colorful couchs... You have to know as well that the cellular coverage is very bad in this secluded part of Ireland... In case of emergency, this is not convenient but this is not a big issue as there is a landline phone in the room.

To conclude: this B&B is too pricey (240€ per night breakfast included and view over the lake) for what you get and nothing seems to have been thought to facilitate foreigners' stay. Just go there for a good dinner. This is hotel doesn't deserve 4 stars. We would have given 2... We don't understand to find this hotel on the Ireland's Blue Book website. We expected before staying to find a place very "zen" but it wasn't at all. We planned initially to stay 5 nights but we shortened our sojourn as my wife got sick one day after arrival. We were told afterward that a dreadful virus was hiting the region but the cleanliness of the hotel was highly questionable as well... We have started feeling better once we left this horrible place.

Frank and Sioban were such great hosts/hostess. This is a great country-like hotel. THE FOOD IS FANTASTIC! The best we've had in Ireland. Rooms were clean and quaint. Wi-Fi in the rooms works great. There is no pub downstairs but you can order a drink to enjoy relaxing with gorgeous views of Carrig Lake

Room Tip: Try and can get a room with a lake view. We had room #2. It's a good choice

We have just enjoyed a two night stay with dinner on each evening at Carrig Country House. It has been absolutely blissful and one of our most enjoyable and relaxing holidays ever. There is not a single aspect of our stay that was not perfect. Our room was out of this world - it had a view of the lake that caused you to enter the room and simply state, 'Wow'! It was simply stunning. We had room 16 and it was faultless - beautiful decor, incredibly powerful shower (there was also a bath), good wifi, huge bed.

We ate so well during our three days - breakfast and dinner were wonderful, and the waitresses were excellent - quick to notice everything and made the whole experience utterly delightful. It would really be a shame to come here and not have dinner every evening.

I could happily remain here for the rest of my life! It was perfection and I think there are only two places where I have stayed at previously whereby I have felt that - Lucknam Park nr Bath and the One and Only Royal Mirage in Dubai. We so hope to return to here one day and will certainly be recommending it to our friends at home.

During our visit to Ireland, we had the opportunity to spend a night at the Carrig Country House, near Killorglin. From the minute we arrived, we were treated wonderfully. As our heavy bags were being taken to our room, we sat out back with a pot of tea and soaked in the peaceful nature of the house & Lake Caragh. Frank & Mary are terrific hosts. The house is quiet & peaceful. The food & service excellent. Our only regret is that we only booked our stay for one night. Should we ever return to the Emerald Isle, we will make sure to return to the Carrig House for as many nights as possible.
