My family (mom, dad, brother) and I stayed with Sam & Sheila (& Casper the dog) on June 2- June 5. We checked in later than expected, but it was no problem. Sam & Sheila were soft-spoken but absolutely accommodating.
The stay was splendid and I could type a book, but I'm going to break it down into points so I stay concise.

- Breakfast was superb: you can mix and match to create the breakfast you want. I recommend the traditional breakfast. Need less food? Go for the poached eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms and salmon.
- Sam & Sheila seem reserved, but they are incredibly helpful when asked. I'd prefer quiet hosts to overbearing ones.
- The beds are incredibly comfortable.
- They let us use the fridge for our beer and leftovers... even helped rearrange so we could fit everything.
- There's parking out front.
- There's plenty of natural light and mirrors for those who need places to get ready. The windowsills also function great for doing makeup.
- There are plenty of electrical sockets in the rooms (none in the bathrooms... that's different for Americans but you'll get used to it.)
- There is plenty of wardrobe space and hangers.
- The water pressure and temperature is awesome. In fact, you have to be sure not to turn the pressure on too high or it might knock you over.
- The towel racks are heated.
- It's quiet, calm and clean without being pretentious or stuffy.
- It's only a 5 minute drive max from the heart of Kenmare. Be sure to go to O Donnabhains Bar... Sam & Sheila will recommend it to you like they did for us. Great food, great music, great beer.
- It's an excellent point for daytime excursions- like the Dingle Peninsula, Ring of Kerry and Ring of Bere.

Sam & Sheila are excellent hosts, and Forgefield House is an excellent place to stay. I recommend it over a hotel (or another b&b) any day.

Thanks for the wonderful stay!

Sheila and Sam run an efficient and friendly operation. Sheila waited up late for our arrival and helped us find a late-night bite. Our room was enormous and quite clean, although the odd shower/bathroom combo took a minute to get used to in the morning. The breakfast room is really picturesque, with a view out into the country. The fresh coffee might have been the best on our trip. Sam also suggested a nice walk down the road which brought us to some great views. And we met Casper the dog as well, a nice bonus. Highly recommended.

My husband and I and another couple spent three nights at Forgefield House. Sheila and Sam were wonderful hosts! They were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Our rooms were large with good-sized bathrooms. The beds were very comfortable, and we even liked the pillows! (This was the only B and B that had softer pillows.) The food was delicious, and we ate in the lovely dining room (sunroom) with windows on three sides overlooking the pleasant, grassy field. We enjoyed watching a pheasant. (The hosts even had binoculars for our use.) We would heartily recommend Forgefield House to anyone staying in Kenmare!

We stayed (3 of us) at Sheila and Sam's place for four nights in May 2014. We had two upstairs rooms and shared a bathroom which was perfect for us. Great location and the breakfasts were fantastic. Also, they both provided some great tourist information, even making phone calls for us to help out with bookings. Thanks to Sheila and Sam, this was our best stay in our 8 week tour of Europe :)))

Sam and Sheila go out of their way to ensure you are completely satisfied. Their dog, Casper, sold me on this booking. Casper is a quiet and laid back friend that greets every guest with kindness.
The accommodations are excellent, the bathroom even came with a heated towel rate...ahhh nice touch. Breakfast was fantastic with many choices. Sam and Sheila's local recommendations were spot on. We highly recommend Forgefield House!

My husband and I were fortunate to spend an evening at the Forgefield House in September. Sam and Sheila are superb hosts, they honestly could not be nicer! We arrived late in the afternoon on a Saturday after a busy first day in Ireland and were greeted by Sam, Sheila and their delightful dog. We were given a spacious, bright room on the main floor with a large bed and a very nice bathroom. The room was spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. There was an electric kettle along with cups and saucers and tea bags/instant coffee/sugar/cream for refreshment. A couple of bottles of water were also in the room - which was a nice touch after a long day of site-seeing. Sam and Sheila provide Wi-Fi and the connection was strong and speedy. I was able to work on our itinerary for the following day, check e-mail, and mail a Wi-Fi based phone call without any delay. Forgefield House is about a five minute drive from the main drag, and I would estimate about a 15 minute walk as my husband and I drove to town in the evening for dinner. Breakfast was GREAT! Probably one of the best I had in the whole of our trip. Sam and Sheila are very warm and inviting, we enjoyed a great conversation with them the morning of our departure - which was truly the highlight of our stay at Forgefield. I would highly recommend Forgefield House to anyone looking for a great starting/stopping point on their way around the Ring of Kerry or those visiting the Southwest of Ireland.

Room Tip: If using Kenmare as a base for the Ring of Kerry - I suggest getting an early start and driving the...

We were given the downstairs wheelchair friendly room and wow what a beauty.
A warm friendly atmosphere in a lovely location with lovely hosts at the helm.

PROS; Oversized, spacious room.
Luxury & comfortable king sized bed
Excellent value for money

CONS; No shower screen so bathroom can get a bit of water spray.
